All rights to Cassandra Clare

“Someone is hurt. Bad.”

Those words kept ringing in my ears as Jace and I followed Simon down the hallways quickly. Their legs are so long. I kept asking “who is hurt?” but Simon didn’t know. All he knew is Maryse said, “check on Jace and Clary immediately.” And he saw a lot of blood leading into the institute, which Maryse replied, “someone is hurt.” We stopped in front of the infirmary, where Isabelle and Alec were. Where’s Jonathan? Oh god.

Jace’s hand gave mine a reassuring squeeze.

“We have no idea what’s going on. But some unlucky shadowhunter met Sebastian. He used his blood to get into the institute, finding you guys.”

“Are you okay?” Isabelle asked me.

“Fine. Why?”

“Your evil demon lover/admirer is back from the dead soo…” Simon said.

“Shut up!” I said with a laugh.

Jace glared at the word, lover. Isabelle and Simon looked at each other.

“Ew,” is all I heard Alec say. I looked at Jace and he was biting back a laugh. Funny, we can laugh at times like these.

“You know what I’ve been thinking about these days?” Jace said.

“Do we even want to know?” Alec asked.

Jace grinned and said, “demon-pox”

“Only you Jace.” I said, and he looked at me putting an arm around my shoulders.

“Hey what’s going on?” I heard the familiar voice.

Jonathan. Jonathan!

He came and stood by me.

“Where the hell have you been!?” I asked. Now I was mad.

Jonathan looked at me with a confused expression. “I-“

“I thought you were hurt! Or worst! Don’t ever scare me like that!”

Everyone was looking at me, then they started to smile.

“What?” I asked. They all laughed. Even Jonathan started laughing. And then I started laughing.

“By-by the Angel, w-what is wrong with us?” Simon managed out after 2 minutes of continuous, crazy laughter. Alec was wiping tears from his eyes, so was Isabelle. My ribs hurt.

“W-we are all mad.” I said, rubbing a tear from my eye.

Jace stopped laughing and was playing with my hair. He still had a huge smile on his face.  Jonathan looked happy. I smiled.

“oh, what are we going to do with ourselves?” Jace said.

“We should be in a book. It would be called, City of Craziness.” Isabelle said.

Once we all calmed down, Alec asked, “So, what happened?”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“What did Sebastian want?”

And then the reality sank in. “He wanted me to come with him. I’m guessing this is why.” I said as I showed them the faint mark of the rune on my hand that I made, what felt like weeks ago, but only and few days ago. The one that made Sebastian scream.

Jace tensed up. “My concern is what he wants to do with your ability.”

“Probably make creepy demon babies pop out of a hand…” Jonathan muttered.

“Ew…” I said. He laughed, but was interrupted by Maryse coming out of the infirmary door.

“The person is stable now. But-“

“Who is it?” Jace asked.

“It’s…” Maryse looked at me. I knew that look. It is the sympathy look, like the one l saw when Luke was stabbed by Sebast- Luke.

Before I knew it, I was running through the infirmary door. I didn’t know if people were yelling after me. I didn’t care. Soon, I stopped dead in my tracks.

There was blood. A lot.

The pale white figure in the bed unconscious wasn’t Luke.

It was my Mom.
