"Ah! My eyes! They burn!" I went to cover them, only to feel the tug from the cords of doom buried in my flesh. "Foul demon! Thou hast bound me with magic!"
Alpha Darien, when I barely opened a scrunched eye to look, hardly moved at all. His hand was still holding a towel about to dry his hair, but was immobile, allowing water to drip and travel down his chiseled form.
I gulped, scrunching my eyes closed once more, in determination not to ogle the enemy. If werewolves were real, who was to say incubi weren't, or were-incubi hybrids? Oh gosh, the people don't know their alpha is charming them into... or out of, their pants! I peeked once more, "I call foul! Foul beast, begone!"
"Really, Drey," his voice was much closer now, and I couldn't help but gasp when he grasped my chin, eyes opening in surprise. He leaned down close to me, hair dripping water onto my face, "If I'm a beast... What does that make you?"
Releasing my face, he straightened, back to me as he worked the towel on his hair, leisurely heading for the closet, "A sheep? Can't be a beast- perhaps a damsel in distress?"
He laughed outright, glancing back at me with my mouth open in objection, "Fits you quite well, in fact. Your whole figure seems to scream it. So, princess, how are you feeling?"
I was in total shock. No, worse, I had no way to argue his statement with anything other than, "But I'm not a girl, dumbnuts!"
"This is the modern world, little wolf, you don't have to be a girl to like pink or marry a guy. Boys can be in distress and you're cute enough to fit the mould of a sickly princess waiting for her prince in wolffish furs."
Alpha Darien was really freaking me out at this point. And pissing me off. Only I was allowed to go on tangents like that! I banged my head into the pillow a few times, trying to make my brain spit out a good comeback.
All that came out was, "Oh yeah? Well, for a wolf you're pretty darn hairless!"
We both stopped and looked at each other. Why? I had no idea, but I couldn't stop my embarrassment from tinting my face, nor my eyes from running over his figure. Damn, why did he have to be so young and hot? Couldn't he have been more grizzled and old like how one would expect an alpha to look?
He just had to have that golden skin that glistened from the water still lingering, the skin taut over those muscles, those wide shoulders and narrow waist and-
"Like what you see?"Eyes wide as saucers, I begged my brain to be helpful just this once by saving me from utter incineration and embarrassment. I was still stuck living with this guy, in his room and trapped in his bed. How was I going to survive if he knew... Knew what? "More like jealous. I may not have been as ripped as you, but at least I knew I was attractive enough to garner some attention myself... Now look at me. I think I'm allowed to be a little jealous now, don't you?"
The atmosphere changed drastically, Alpha Darien heading back to the bathroom with his clothes,"You're right." This was all he said before the door clicked closed behind him.
I felt a bit bad, breathing out a sigh of relief only to feel guilt twingeing in my chest. I mean, the guy was a jerk at the best of times, but he wasn't a bad guy. I was sure, at some level deep deep deep... Deep down, that he feels bad for this happening to me.
Him being alpha just meant that there were so many more important things that he had to deal with first. My issue, in the grand scheme, was only a problem unto myself. I'm sure that if I had stayed human, he would have merely paid the hospital or funeral fees and been done with me... If that.
Shit, that actually sounds pretty sucky, in all honesty. What was the purpose of this thought again, because it seems majorly negative to me. I could only allow the aggrieved feeling to color my face while resignedly watching the slow drip of the IV. The remote was too far to reach. I was just trying once more in the hope that my arms had grown a few feet when the pull of the needles reminded me of why a bad idea it was. Again.
Just then, the door clicked once more and Alpha Darien came out once more in a white tank and sweats, hair mostly dry, "Why do I smell your blood, little wolf?"
I couldn't help but glare at the side table way on the other side of the bed, "Because the remote hates me."
The wolf man raised a dark brow in response, leisurely walking around to his side before plopping down with the remote in hand, "Let me check your arm."
"I'm good," I couldn't help but flaunt my contrarian nature in the only way I could to display my general displeasure. "Have them taken out and I may be more receptive, though."
"Show me and I'll let you have first pick on what to watch."
"Two, and we have a deal," my ears perked up at the loopholes and my deceitful nature rubbed its hands together in glee.
"Two if it's thirty minute shows, one if it's a movie."
"Ugh, what kind of choice is that?!" I raised my hands to my face, slowly rubbing my hands down and off. "Two movies, one of which we agree on, or three tv shows, one of which we agree on."
Alpha Darien let out a big sigh of annoyance, which I hoped meant that he would just agree with my terms, "I'll allow you to stay up and watch two movies, one of your choice, or we can go to bed now and have Doctor Samson come in to take care of you."
I gaped at him in horror, "You cruel, cruel man."The horrible beast of an alpha stared back at me cooly, "Your choice?"
"Must I say it?" I looked to him, but his face was impenetrable, probably pushing this as punishment. "The first choice, so long as your movie choice is something I won't suffer having to watch."
"I believe that may be arranged," He checked where the two tubes came together and into my hand, frowning at the bit of blood under the tape. He looked up at me disapprovingly, "You have to be more careful, Drey. Your healing abilities are questionable at best, and Doctor Samson didn't have the easiest of time finding a vein. Just think about being awake and poked several times over because you accidentally pulled this out."
I shivered at the thought, "Got it, boss. But... How long must these creatures of doom stay hooked in my arm?"
Alpha Darien seemed impervious to normal humor, as if his previous light-hearted banter had never occurred, "Once the bags run dry. Probably a bit over an hour left."
My mouth was getting dry from all the talk and stress. I wasn't built to be crafty right after waking. These things took time to slip into, "And what about if I have to use the toilet?"
"Hopefully you don't before then."
We both silently stared at each other.
