After all, it was they who had caused Rico to have no job.
They who made Rico poor.
Rico turns on his podcast via his mirror-radio (called MR, or Mister, for short).
A strong, yet soft, unassuming voice slips through:
"No man appreciates mass miracles
When he ain't got a job.
Mass miracles too mass-produced...
They feel... false.
Generic.
It is the age of the banal miracle.
The blasé Messiah.
The casually disdainful "Heaven on Earth."
We live in the post-scarcity world, or so they say...
Yet, there is something awfully scarce.
Something lost...
We've lost somethin' folks.
We lost our soul... when we lost our jobs.
Our means to live...
Our means to produce.
It was the sweat of the brow, coupled with the cool breeze...
That was our peace.
Our peace of mind.
It's not graphene gadgets.
Nor silicon toys...
They don't bring us that peace...
They've turned Jesus into a machine...
It's hard work, work of our hands, work of our legs and backs!
Good ole' fashioned labor!
That's what it means to be man! To be a human being!
Without it, we are hardly human...
Barely being.
We've lost many a good soul to suicide these latter days because life without work is as being lost in the woods without sight...
