Chapter 41| Extendable Ears

Previously on Welcome Back

Everyone laughed and they all ate and drank till late at night when Lily urged everyone to sleep.

"We have to start cleaning tomorrow. The order meeting is in a few days" Lily told them. Everyone laughed knowing that only Lily would be focusing on the important stuff right now. They all relented however and headed off to bed where for the first time in a week, Harry didn't have any nightmares.

The next few days went by in a blur. James, Lily, Sirius, and Harry got a lot of letters asking them to give interviews but they declined each offer they got. They weren't interested in being the face of publicity. They just wanted normal lives, but as Harry said

"Good luck with that, its never going to happen"

Lily had everyone cleaning the house consistently. The first order meeting would be held in a few days and Lily wanted the house clean in case anyone was staying overnight or so. Different sleeping arrangements were made for everyone now.

Harry and Ron shared a room, so did Fred and George, as well as Ginny and Hermione.

Ron now knew what to do in case Harry had a nightmare. Ron always gets up and wake Harry up, if that fails then Ron tries to calm him down based on what Harry's nightmare was about.

"Harry, it's fine. They aren't here, they can't hurt you" Ron said on one night when Harry was having a particularly vicious nightmare. Harry woke up with a start and started shaking

"I'm sorry," Harry said woefully to Ron, "Don't mean to wake you up every night"

Ron smiled and said "It's fine. This is what Fred and George used to do to me a year or so ago."

"It's just so stupid. I shouldn't have bloody nightmares now" Harry said feeling frustrated

"Harry, you can't expect to get rid of your fears in a month or two. It takes time" Ron said wisely

Harry tried to say something to Ron but he couldn't

"Thank you," Harry said to Ron before falling asleep again, Ron smiled and whispered "Your welcome before going back to bed"

Harry remembered that incident as he was applying a fresh coat of paint on the walls of a guest room adjacent to his and Ron's.

Harry knew that he didn't expect to be rid of his nightmares in a few weeks or so, but the nightmares drained him every night. There were times when he didn't go back to sleep after particularly horrendous ones.

Harry closed his eyes and took a deep breath after opening them again and going back to re-painting the room.

After a few days, it was time for the first Order meeting. Almost every room in the house was deemed safe except for a few which would be looked at later.

That afternoon Lily visited Harry's room where everyone seemed to be in these past few days. She knocked on the door and came in at the sound of Harry saying "come in"

"Hi, mum, what's wrong?" Harry asked seeing that the visitor was Lily

"Nothing honey, I just wanted to make sure that all of you know that you are forbidden to come into the drawing room today or any day when we have a meeting. You may not leave this floor whenever we have a meeting" Lily told Harry and his friends, making sure to leave a loophole in it since she knew that they would find a way anyways.

Fred and Georges face lit up when they saw the loophole but said nothing about it. They just agreed with Lily like everyone else.

Once they were sure she left they laid out their plans to the group

"So we have been working on these devices call Extendable Ears, they are like listening devices. They are attached to a string and if we dangle them down the stairs we can hear whatever they are saying" Explained Fred

"The only problem is that we haven't finished them yet. They are still in the testing phase" Added George

Everyone else looked uneasy as Harry voice their thoughts

"Do you really think we should?" Harry asked them

"You saw the way your mum gave us her orders. She made sure to leave a loophole." George persuaded

Everyone was unsure but relentlessly agreed after much persuasion from Fred and George.

"Hermione, would you be so kind as to help us with perfecting our Extendable Ears," Fred asked the bushy haired witch.

Hermione blushed and said "Sure"

"Hang on, where did you guys even get all this money from? And please don't say that you robbed Gringotts" Ron asked his brothers

"Ask us no questions we don't want to answer and you will hear no lies," Fred said knowing that Harry still didn't want to share the fact that he gave his Triwizard winnings to them for their joke shop.

Fred and George then left with Hermione to their room to perfect their ears.

"Bloody mental they are" Ron grumbled, "Where do you think they got their funds from Harry?" Ron asked Harry.

Harry who was trying to evade the question simply said "Must have a silent partner, or they started saving up"

"Maybe, but not likely," Ron said looking at Harry suspiciously while Ginny shuffled the Uno cards again so that they could play

I love hearing ur questions, comments, concerns etc. I will probably start their school year in between idk 5ish chapters so yea just a heads up on that, and yea.
