"Who goes there?" A grumbling voice drifted on the breeze, echoing past me and Callum. I lifted Zym up slightly,
"We have a mission, to um, see the queen." Zym cocked his head to the side and let his tongue roll lazily out of his mouth, he was putting on his 'cute' face.
"It's the dragon prince, if ya can't see straight," The dark hood surrounding his face lifted in recognition,
"Give him to me," His arms stretched out. Zym whimpered and huddled against my chest,
"What right do you have? This is precious cargo, he's not to be passed from our hands." Callum had a gleam in his eye that told me he wouldn't go down without a fight, it wasn't like anything I'd ever seen before. A sudden wind came out of nowhere and the cloak blew back to reveal a man with startling yellow eyes, his face contorted with anger,
"You will give me the dragon prince!" His hands lifted and crackles of lightning swirled around his finger tips threatening to burst at any second. A tiny gasp escaped my lips and a small smile crept over our attackers, I slipped my hand into my pocket in hopes of a dagger or two, nothing but the fork. Callum gritted his teeth and rushed forward,
"Run!" he called out to me. I spied a small exit and made for that, I looked behind me and saw that Callum, instead of running with me, was running toward the dark figure. At the last second, just before Callum was triumphant, the man released the storm. A bright flash hit Callum in the shoulder as he fell to the ground, the mans gaze then shifted to me. I tuned without a second thought and began running once again. Just inside the path a large portal rose in front of me, and I jumped through.
A great palace appeared before me,
"I made it!" Without Callum. I strode up to the castle saw several rows of sun elves guarding a grand entrance leading up to what I guess was the Queens chamber. Zym jumped to the ground wiggling with excitement, he knew he was home,
"This is the dragon prince!" I yelled out. I guess the guards didn't see me as a threat and they let me pass, the grand doors opened with a load clanging sound, and I took a deep breath, 'This is it' I said to myself. The pathway led out to a garden hidden deep in the castle property.
Before me a great beast arose, an even more impressive dragon than storm. Every ounce of the Queen's being emitted the effects of royalty. Her wings were enormous, emerald green and every inch was shining like a gem, there was no mistaking the likeness of Zym and the Queen, they were almost identical, except the color difference.
"Oh great Queen," I dropped into a pitiful curtsey,
"I have the great honor of presenting you son to you!" Zym bounced up to her and grinned, she nodded.
"I hope I have helped... erm, bring peace among the uh, nations." It was all I could do to keep from slapping my forehead in disgust for my 'Amazing' speech. I folded my arms waiting for something to happen, no magical celebration? No confetti?
Just a happy baby dragon and his mother, nothing more, nothing less. The Queen smiled gratefully and sent out a messenger to proclaim that their stolen property had been returned, I started to turn to the door when Zym rubbed up against my leg, whimpering.
"Hey, don't be sad, I'll be back." I leaned down to pat his head,
"Next time I'll bring Ezren!" That brought back Zym's spunk, I wiped a small tear from my eye as he waltzed back to the Queen, who knows when I'll be back, I have to go find Callum.
(So sorry for the wait and the short chapter, I'm getting some writer's block! But I think I'm getting an idea!)
