Hey quick note I'll be honest here I'll probably write a Real Fic of Zen being in talon and you can't make me not do it so (yeehaws)
But for now, I just want to discuss what we DO know about Zenyatta. Y'know, canon stuff.
First, his name. Tekharta Zenyatta. First, the title, Tekharta. It's a play on words for the buddhist term siddhartha, which means "He who achieves his aim" (I'm not factchecking this I literally just read it on a forum). We know it's a title because 1. Chu told us and 2. Both Mondatta and Zen have the title. Now, the main name. Their names are based off the album Zenyatta Mondatta by The Police. I'm not kidding. I swear I'm not kidding.
The rest I'm not even sure about, because half of it I could have picked up in fan comics. I'm pretty sure Zen left his little club before Mon got shot in the head. Whether or not he left on good terms is not clear. While he was floating around, he found Genji. He taught him to not be such a little bitch. That's it. That's literally it. We know Genji had moved into Nepal for a bit, because some of his stuff is in a room on the map. But we don't know when. If we get a Zenyatta animated short, comic, or fuck, I'll accept a short story at this point, I expect it to be about one of three things. One, him leaving/returning to Nepal. Two, Genyatta shenanigans. Three, something that catches everyone completely off guard (cough cough Talon Zenyatta). But will we get anything at this point?
Here's some fun things I found while sorting through his voice lines.
-"Repetition is the path to mastery." ~Zenyatta. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. These words are usually credited to the acclaimed genius Albert Einstein."~ quoteinvestigator.com. Analysis? Zenyatta is insane. Fun thought.
-"Time is an illusion, but the illusion is about to run out." ~Zenyatta. I'm not really able to listen to the actual voice lines (music playlist and me being lazy) but it really sounds like he has some actual sass going on here.
-"I feel neither joy nor remorse amidst such death." ~Zen with a multikill. Let's assess this whole ass line here. He's not bragging about the kill streak. But he's not upset about hurting others. Yes, he's in a shooter. But isn't the wording here odd? I think this ties in with his character itself. Let's use Hanzo as an example, and say he wasn't told to kill Genji, but it was his his own decision. Zenyatta would tell Genji to forgive him and all that.. Hell, maybe not if we're assuming he had complete control over his choices. He'd let Genji kill Hanzo in battle, or hell, maybe kill Hanzo himself. He wouldn't feel great about the death of someone, but he wouldn't feel that bad about that particular asshole being wiped off the planet. Some food for thought there.
-"To hold a grudge is unhealthy... for you." ~Zen after revenge (I guess that's if you kill the person that killed you? I didn't know this line existed). HOOOOO BOY. God complex here? Iris complex? Why can he hold a grudge and let it be healthy, but if someone else does it's bad. Is he covering up something subconsciously? Maybe he was a grudge with Talon for shooting Mondatta, and he's trying to hide it within his mind. I mentioned earlier he's not sane, in my mind. This is more evidence.
-(Talking to Genji) "Zenyatta: Even the teacher can learn from his student." This just connects dots from the point I made in the previous quote. He's this great teacher that leads others to the brightest path, but he'll need help to see his own lit path. Very touching.
-(on Nepal) "It is good to return, but am I still welcome here?"~Zen. DID HE. HE DIDN'T GET KICKED OUT DID HE????? Why would he not be welcome???
-(Still Nepal) "I have not returned here for many years. I wonder if my brothers and sisters will be pleased to see me." Evidence supporting he left before Mondatta got shreked.
