"Rogue 03, in position, prepare to grab the objective." The squad leader muttered through the coms. Holstering her standard-issued rifle in her arms she gave the affirmative.
"Can't wait to get home for a good roast beef." The team chuckled in agreement, they'd have been overseas for a year, stuck in a reclusive location in Egypt, and they were all anxious to finish this last mission and get the order to go home to their family and friends. "Preach that Marcus." More quiet laughs filled the coms.
"Alright, move in!" Squad leader called out and set the plan in motion. The mission had been to go into an underground cave, which had been a temple at a point in time, and retrieve some sort of religious text, or relic, which had been located in the main hall. The intelligence had said that the place was supposed to be crawling with enemy forces.
The squad moved in, weapons raised, and in a wedge formation, the murmurs is confusion from some of them were clear. "What the fuck? This is a ghost town, there was supposed to be enemy here no?" The thick Honduran accent of a man called Ramón came through the coms.
"Better for there to be no one and us save our bullets and take fewer chances." Spoke up a woman, Andrea with an annoyed tone. "Stop complaining."
The squad came to the double doors for the main hall. As soon as they stepped inside they felt the chills. They made haste to the altar. "Hurry Clair." Squad leader, Nick, said.
The woman swallowed but wasted no time as she grabbed the clear stone tablet in the beautifully decorated tablet. As soon as her hand made contact with the relic she felt a buzz and paused. "What is it? Hurry up." Someone said from behind her.
"Somethings happening. Somethings wrong."
Screams followed.

Clara sat on the rooftop of the hotel Carmilla, one of the few hotels in America to cater to vampires. The hotel had gone through a huge remodel and has spent an incredible amount of money so it could be suitable for their future patrons. The young woman leaned against the small concrete wall, her eyes covered by dark sunglasses, a peculiarity since the sun hadn't yet come up.
"I hadn't realized the roof was otherwise occupied." She heard a deceptively young masculine voice say. She raised her head and smiled at his soft tone.
"As you can see, it is." The woman tilted her head. "You seem very melancholic." She noted.
The man was quiet for a little while. "I came to meet the Sun."
She paused "Oh." Said softly. "You are a vampire." She stated.
He gave no response. She leaned her body forward. "Why?" She simply asked.
"I've lived too long. Two thousand years is enough." He said.
She laughed quietly. "Nonsense, come," She lightly tapped the empty space next to her. "Sit next to me."
He didn't move for a while, and she didn't retract the offer as he stared at her. He decided to sit down. "It would not take long at my age." He said.
"Mm." She laid her head on his shoulder. Not bothering to ask for permission. "I think there is still much left for you to do." She said.
He swallowed and shook his head slightly. "I have done horrible, unforgivable things," he started. "Humans fear us with good reason."
A subtle indication that he was part of the reason that the reputation of vampires was so feared.
"Don't be fooled. Humans don't fear vampires more than they fear other humans." She softly interjected. "You are not the only one that has done horrible, unforgivable things. Humans hurt and slaughter each other daily too."
"It is not your fault your kind is feared. No matter how ruthless and cold a murderer you once were." She reassured him.
"There is no way to make up for what I've done." He said.
"Yes, there is." She answered simply and felt him sit and stare at her as if to ask How?.
"You live, as long as you can and honor those lives. Because it was thanks to them, one way or another, that you are here right now. You give back and help the people around you regardless of who they are without being asked. You look for a reason to live and be happy." She said. "Don't you have a reason to live?" She raised her head, her covered eyes staring straight into his. Her hands found his and grasped them tightly a small smile on her face.
"It seems you need to find your happy medium and stop hating yourself."
Someone new was in the roof, "Godric!"
Her hands grasped his cheeks as she pressed her lips against his forehead. "It seems you still have people to live for, even if you don't want to live for yourself Godric." She stood up, hands on the rails and making her leave.
Godric kept his eyes on the human as she disappeared down the stairway, taking the sweet scent with her, before his gaze shifted to his progeny. His child's eyes were red, blood dripping down his chin and face troubles, as if he was about to break.
His child knelt in-front of him, head bowed, quiet sobs and pleads. Godric frowned to himself, it had seemed he had found something new to atone for.
He raised his hand and placed it on his progeny cheek, thumb massaging the tears away. "I won't leave you Eric." He finally said. Eric shoulders sagged in relief.
