We get to the hospital on time for Amy's appointment.

"So is it just an ultrasound today?!" the doctor asks.

"Yeah," I say loping my arm round Amy's waist.

He shows Amy to the room and I follow behind.

"Just Amelia please," he says.

I sigh and take a seat outside the room.

Five minutes later the doctor emerges from the room.

"She'd like to talk to you," he says.

I stand up from my seat and go into the room.

She is sat upright in the bed; tears flooding from her eyes.

"Amy?"

She looks up.

"What's wrong?"

"There's nothing there," she sobs. "She's gone. I just wanted to let you know you won't be a dad after all."

"Amy?!" I begin.

"No Lucus I think it's best if we don't see each other."

"For awhile?! Okay I understand. Do you want a ride home?"

"No ever again. Mum's coming to get me," she says wiping the tears from her eyes. "Bye Lucus."

"Bye Amelia," I say leaving the room.

I walk out of the hospital with the burden of being a father lifted off my shoulders but with the love of my life taken from my arms.
