Tom's POV

- - - - - - - - -

I never knew why, but I had always felt this weird connection with water. When I was near a lake or the ocean, I felt at peace. I felt connected to it. It was weird really, because I could always hear the sounds of rushing waters where ever I went.

I was an excellent swimmer. I could hold my breath for six minutes easily. My mum always said it was just because I had a great lung capacity like my dad. Apparently -according to her- I was a lot like my dad.

Though it's not like I would know. Because he left us when I was first born... she never told me why...

That was until two days ago.

I was walking to school with my best mate Harrison. I always walked with him to and from school. Ever since we were little we would. It was weird though, because Harrison had both of his legs in casts for as long as I could remember. He was in an accident when he was three or something and ever since, he has always had them on. It never really made sense to me because his legs still grew along with him which I thought didn't happen if they were broken...

Anyway. We were walking to school when suddenly we rounded a corner and I bumped into someone.

"Oh I'm so sorry." I apologised to the man. When I looked up at him I saw how tall he was. And how buff he was. And how pissed of he looked. Oh god I hope this doesn't end badly...

"Watch where you're going pip squeak." His low voice snapped. I then realised that he had a friend with him who was just as scary as he was.

"Of course. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"To what? Crash into my friend here huh? You need to watch were you step or else you could get hurt buddy." He hissed and stepped forward, making me step back.

"Come on. We don't want any trouble. He already apologised, so please just leave us alone." Harrison spoke up making the two men look at him.

"What was that Crutches?" The first man insulted, "You think you can tell us what to do, do ya? You think you're so tough?"

"Just leave us alone okay? We aren't looking for a fight." I spoke cautiously.

"Aaaaw what's this? You looking after your boyfriend?" One snarkily remarked. My fists clenched and I breathed in to try and stop myself from punching him.

"Come on. Let's just leave. We're going to be late." I decided to just walk away. I followed after Harrison as we started to walk away to take a different route. But one of the men grabbed me by the shoulder and turned me around.

"Hey don't walk away from us when we're talking to you." He growled. I shrugged his hand off but he pulled me forward by the collar of my shirt and glared at me threateningly. I crunched my nose up in disgust as the strong scent of cigarettes and alcohol filled my nose. I pushed away from him and quickly regretted it as he took a swing at me, his fist landing firmly on my cheek.

My head violently snapped to the side from the impact and I held my cheek as a numb but searing pain overcame my face. I wiped my mouth as I felt a warm liquid spill down my face and the metallic taste of blood washed over my tongue. I looked up at the man who was now smirking as his friend advanced on Harrison.
