Annie typed quickly, trying to distracther wandering mind. The ad was almost complete but she felt like it wasnt worth her time. She didnt want another mouth to feed. She could barely feed herself and theyd just take up space. Itd been almost two months since Reiner and Bertolt had moved out to start a life in Miami but she was still in the small apartment trying desperately to make rent. Life was going down hill fast but it was all she could do not to curl up and just give up. Friends for life and for Annie something more. Small in stature but big on additude shed fought and fought and fought just to be beaten by someone larger and stronger. At least in those days she had Reiner and Bertolt to come home to. She did it for her friends... No her brothers. They were like the brothers she never really wanted. But now? Now she alone. Alone in an empty house with just a scrawny cat for company. She pressed enter on the key board, summiting the ad for a roommate to Kraig's list. She sighed not really wanting to move on. Annie didnt want any of this but the world was her enemy and all she knew to do was to fight and she wasnt about to do that with just a cat by her side. She pulled her blonde into a small ponytail, brushing her long bangs out of her face. 'And so begins the boring wait for a call from a potentional roommate.' she sullen.
Reaching into the desk she pulled out the sketch pad and a pen. All she could do now was draw. then again thats all she ever did. Lining the walls, the fridge, every portfolio, sketch pad, book canvas had sketches in or on it. From people to places to thing. They all filled her imagination. Most of the drawings didnt make sense. Huge walls with a giant skin-less monster peering over its mass. A type of mechanical device with wires and swords. Symbols for some sort of divisions she didnt have time to ponder. And then there were the people, oh the people. A girl with a scarf as red as blood. A boy with bitemarks on his hand. Even drawings of people she knew. Reiner and Bertolt in some type of uniforms. The visions of battles and people in tree tops. She didnt understand any of it but it fasinated her. The mask, the mystery and all that bullshit. She even made jackets not that her friends ever found out. She just kept it her little secret and drew of people and places that didnt exist.
Moving the pencil across the page, a female face formed before her eyes the same face she'd drawn before. The girl with the scarf as red as blood. She wished to meet her in person in real life but that was crazy talk. She didnt exist. Not really. .................
The days turned to weeks and still no calls for the room. Empty take out containers and ramen wrappers piled high. She sighed. Why did she even bother. Everyone avoided the freak in 10D. Her phone rang loudly in her room and she groaned dropping the sketch pad and pencil on the desk and got up to retrevive the phone. She walked as slowly as possible hoping it would go to voice mail before she got there and she could just lay on the bed and stare at the sheets until night reered its ugly head. Alas she made it and answered the phone before looking at the number. "Who is this? I'm a little busy at the moment." her voice was laced with bitterness. It was a lie but she didnt care. Anything to end this quickly. A little startle voice replied before she could hang up the phone. "Sorry to disturb you but i was calling about the room."
"Alright. Lets make this quick. Do you have a pet?" Annie said as she started her list of questions.
"I have a cat."
"Do you have a job?"
"Yes. I work at the book store and coffe shop on your block."
"I dont care . Now here's the big question. Can you cook?"
"Yes. Why? Is that an issue?"
Annie cut her off. "That'll be all. I'll stop by the coffe shop tonight. Congratulations..."
"Mikasa. Mikasa Ackerman."
"Well Mikasa youve got yourself a roommate." Annie hung up before she could say anything else. She colllasped on the bed, pulling her hood over her face. 'Great now Ive done it.'Annie rolled over to look at her clock. 4 o clock in the afternoon. What a lovely time for a stroll in the streets of Brooklyn.
