Pain

Three months prior...

San sped along the coastline with the windows rolled down as the night air billowed inside of the car. He could smell the ocean and hear the sound of the waves over Bach playing softly over the radio. He didn't know where he was headed but could sense he was definitely going in the right direction.

It was the night of the new moon and the black velvet of the sky was eerily starless. The whole world was enveloped in the pitch so, other than the light of the headlights cutting through the dark, San couldn't make out anything around them. He knew he was starting to get close to whatever it was he was searching for and turned on his blinkers to pull over on the shoulder. He shifted the purring car into park and waited quietly.

The only sound other than the wind was Wooyoung's soft breathing in the passenger seat. He'd fallen asleep on the drive and San watched as his chest gently rose and fell. He reached a hand over to trace the exposed skin inside the hole of Wooyoung's ripped jeans. The feeling of him against his palm helped to calm San as he scanned the night scene in front of the car.

He listened intently for a few minutes before he finally heard it. Something stumbled wildly through the bushes off to the side of the road. It was panting heavily as it ran forward like prey being pursued by a predator. San rapidly sniffed the air and picked up on a distinct scent.

The first was terror.

It rolled off whoever it was in pungent waves. It was the smell of something afraid for death as it ran onward sweating and wetly breathing in the undergrowth. He could hear the pounding of a heartbeat too and the sound wasn't unlike the fluttering wings of a caged bird trying to break free. San's eyes focused on the figure who crashed out of the trees and fell onto the wet pavement in front of the car.

The boy was covered head to toe in globs of mud from the recent rainfall on the island. Although San couldn't make out any distinct features he could tell the boy was young and in a lot of pain. He held his stomach and collapsed into a heap on the road.

San told an awakening Wooyoung to stay put and slowly got out of the car. At the sound of approaching footsteps the boy's head snapped up and he squinted into the lights. San walked forward cautiously not wanting him to panic and hurt himself even more than he already was.

The second smell was sex.

The boy was completely naked and thin from starvation. There were frayed cords still tied around his wrists and ankles and the skin below was covered in marks of purple and blue. He must've struggled quite a bit for them to have bitten so deeply into his skin. San looked up to the tree line and thought it would be impossible to trace back from where he'd come from.
