chapter thirteen

A week passed since the interrogation with Stephanie, although the police had been in and out of my house just as I had been in and out of the station. I did not see much of Charles and the rest of the TDDs, I guess it's because I barely left the house. My father wanted us to clear Hillary's room but I insisted that we leave it the way it is.

"how are you?" my father asked as he leaned against the frame of my bedroom door.

"I'm fine" I gave a weak smile.

"so Dise would be coming back two weeks from now" he said.

"that's really early, I thought her program is up to a year" I got up from the bed.

"well, I told her about what happened, she wanted to come immediately but she couldn't because of exams" he explained." get ready, by 2:oopm the officers would be here again".

"not another session of boredom and relentless questioning" I whined.

"we have no other choice if we want to find out what really happened" my father said.

"I've said this same..." the front door opened with so much force that it slammed the wall, I could hear footsteps downstairs and in a matter of seconds, the police were in my room. "Arthur Roland, you're under arrest".

My eyes widened, what are they talking about? The officers grabbed me and I resisted but it only caused them to use more force on me. I remember my father said they'll be here but I fail to recall him talking about an arrest.

"what is this? Chris! Let him go! Arthur! Arthur!" my father shouted and tried to stop them from taking me away.

"Mr Roland, all your questions would be answered at the station" Chris said and I could almost feel the anger and annoyance in his voice.

I was frightened and totally confused for I had no idea why I was being arrested and the officers were silent when I questioned them. I found myself behind bars, I heard the voice of my father as he argued with the officers.

"may I?" a female voice so familiar, Luke's mother.

I sat on the floor, waiting for her to show her face and of which she did. "Arthur Roland" she called my name with so much hatred. "what did he ever do to you?"

I remained quiet as she spoke and when she finished I was still silent because I was unable to understand what she was saying. She turned to leave and just before she was out of sight, she said "we shall meet in court".

I was bewildered, what just happened? Just as I was in a state of confusion, officer Stephanie walked in, "I know you're confused but trust me, I have a plan to settle all of this".

"Stephanie leave" officer Chris startled us by his sudden appearance. "Arthur I believed you were a good boy but killing Luke just because you feel he's one of the dare devils, really? That is but insane and preposterous"

I instantly became dizzy, it felt like the cell was spinning. "what are you saying?" I asked.

"George!" he called and another officer came running in.

"yes sir!" George said.

"take him out, you know what I mean" officer Chris said and I waited in terror to see what he meant.

"what's happening? I did not do anything! Chris listen to me!" I screamed, I was clueless of what to do.
