I will always fight for you no matter what, they say. Yes, they've said it but do they really mark their own words?

I don't think so.

They say that because it's natural to say those things, like those in books. But this is the reality, we all have fears of such things. If one doesn't, then perhaps he/she is no human at all.

Would they really fight for who they love? Even facing their own fear just to save them? Would they even be brave enough to do so? Are they just saying those but don't really do it?

Rather than saying that, why not be honest and say, "I'm sorry, I can't promise you to protect you at all cost". It's better to say the truth rather than the person having high hopes just because of a lie.
