Forewarned, this story is not what I normally write.

It's a parody that originated as a joke among the Paid Story program authors, which I partially instigated and have subsequently been dragged into. Parodies are not my thing, so I am being left to flounder around like a fish out of water in a genre I really should not be dabbling in...

In a proper, painless world, this parody would not have even been dreamed up, let alone put into writing. It's meant to be cliche – which goes against my usual writing rules. It's also the first book I have written where many of the world ideas had to match existing books that were not my own. So, if you're feeling brave, feel free to continue.

I place all blame upon Arveliot (whom I kind of goaded into writing a werewolf parody book about a werewolf terraforming Mars), SabrinaBlackburry who took my joke about a series far too seriously and wrote the first spinoff about a steampunk floating above Mars), and druidrose  - who keeps egging us on while we're slowly dragging her into this pit of parody despair. Several others have also joined the joke, and all of these books have the tags #mbbwqsl and #Werewolvesinspace

This is one of those books that was written because misery loves company.

They have very thoughtfully handed me merfolk, axes, a watery Mars moon, and the embarrassment of having to actually post this where people can see it.

Merfolk, of all things. The last time I ever had anything to do with mermaids and mermen was when I watched The Little Mermaid as a child – nearly two decades ago! I hadn't even gotten around to watching Aquaman by the time I started writing this.

This terrible attempt at a parody is meant as a joke among friends. No offense is meant towards anyone or anything as I poke some fun at whatever cliche details or themes I can toss into this non-existent plot. If you like, you can keep track of which cliché themes you managed to spot.

I've divided them into three groups and will list them in the Author's Note at the end. Standard cliches, Merfolk cliches, and Writing blunders (writing faux pas).

So, let's see just how many cliche things I can stuff into these chapters.

What have I gotten myself into this time... Brace yourselves...
