Dylan
"This is taking forever."

Louise
"We've only been waiting for 17 minutes."

Dylan
"I need my phone. Look. My hands are shaking."

Louise
"What do you think people did in waiting rooms before phones?"

Dylan
"Talk to each other?"

I shudder.

Louise
"That sounds horrible."

Dylan
"It's not so bad. Talk to me."

Louise
"I'd rather stare at the wall."

Dylan
"You can do both at the same time. Come on. There's plenty to talk about, like... Who are you going to prom with?"

My muscles tense and my heart starts to pound. I squeeze the armrests on my chair so hard that my knuckles turn white.

Dylan
"What's the matter? No date, Cheese?"

I jerk my head around and glare at him with an ice-cold stare.

Louise
"Don't. Call. Me. Cheese."

I hiss the words at him through gritted teeth. I must look like a feral cat.

Dylan
"You used to love that name."

Louise
"Used to. That was before the entire school called me it. And before people started shoving rotting cheese in my locker!"

He drops his eyes and sighs.

Louise
"You know your evil prom date does that, right? Nikki."

Dylan
"Nikki wouldn't do that."

Louise
"She has. She did. And she'll do it again."

There's an awkward silence that lasts a couple of minutes. The sounds of Dylan's stomach growling finally breaks it.

Dylan
"I'm hungry."

Louise
"Good. I hope you starve."

Dylan
"We're going to be here for a while. You have to get me some food."

Louise
"I don't have to do anything."

Dylan
"You hit me with your car. You have to."

Louise
"I don't have any money."

Dylan
"Too bad. You hit me with your car. You figure it out."

I look at him with a grin.

Louise
"Hurricane orphans?"

His blue eyes light up as he turns to me with a mischievous smile.

Dylan
"Hurricane orphans."

Hurricane orphans was something we used to do as kids. It got us tons of candy, slushies, and most importantly, ice cream. We head down to the cafeteria to stake out the perfect victim.

Dylan
"What about him?"

Louise
"No. You know guys in suits are always the cheapest."

Dylan
"Right. Her?"

He points to a woman who's reading a book while she eats her soup.

Louise
"Let's do it."

A thrill ripples through my body as we head over. I haven't felt this excited since I used to hang out with Dylan as a kid.

Dylan
"Excuse me, ma'am."

Lady
"Yes?"

Dylan
"Do you know where the orphanage is?"
