After an hour of stories, Fletch tucked her in and kissed her forehead.
"Night night sweetheart"
"Daddy will Jac be coming round again?" Ella said sleepily
"Yeah I think so - is that ok?" He said stroking her hair
"Ok" she said quietly and went to sleep.
He really wanted to talk to Jac about it  but probably too late. He settled for sending her a text
Night night
I'll see you in the morning. I'll bring coffee
Love F xx
Jac replied quickly
Buona notte Fletch
Love J xx
She smiled to herself mischievously
He chuckled affectionately when read the text
"Cheeky Ms Naylor. I will definitely make you pay for that"
The next morning Fletch knocked on her office  door brandishing two coffees. He reflected that this action did not arouse any suspicion in anyone as this is what he had been doing most days for well over a year.
"Hi" he said entering, expecting some sarcastic Italian greeting in response but not today
"Hey" she looked up and smiled "mmm coffee. It smells good"
She took one of the cups off him and gestured for him to sit on her sofa where she joined him
"So how did I do with the Fletchlings?"
"Well generally good. Mikey thinks you're fit and not as scary as he expected"
"And where did he get the idea that I was scary?"
He gave her a 'where do you think ' kind of look
"Theo likes you because you're Emma's mummy and you're nice to him"
"And the girls?"
"Evie was a bit 'told you so'. She informed me that I fancied you ages ago and you've already heard how much I bang on about you at home"
"And Ella?"
Fletch told Jac about what Ella had said and the album that they'd talked about. When he finished there were tears in his eyes threatening to fall
Jac gently laid her hand on his leg
"0h Fletch I'm sorry. Poor kid"
He squeezed her hand.
"Evie and Mikey remember their mum really well and Theo can't but Ella is desperately trying to hold on to any memories she has. It's nothing personal but you're the only one they've met since Nat died. Not that there's been many anyway"
"Should I stay away then?" Jac asked
"No, no. I won't let her forget her mum and she knows Nat can't come back. She asked if you were coming round again and said ok when I told her you would. She just needs a little time"
"Just let me know when you want to get together"
Jac went to get up and go back to her desk. Fletch quickly grabbed her hand and stopped her
"Don't do that" he said
"Don't do what?"
"Start closing yourself off. Putting your walls up"
"I..." she began
"I won't let you do it Jac" he stood and wrapped her in his arms
"We've come too far and we are in this together. I love you Naylor and I love my family and this is going to work "
Jac just nodded into his shirt unable to speak
