Imagine:

"Y/N? Y/N, what are you doing here? You can't race in the Gauntlet. I won't let you."

"Well, it's a good thing it's not your decision. I understand the risks and I'm taking them."

"But you could die. I don't want you getting hurt."

"Lorin, this is what I've wanted since I was a little girl. I don't know what else to tell you. You aren't going to stop me, so get out of my way."

Lorin's face was obviously holding pain from the venom in your words, but they were words that needed to be said.

The Gauntlet was going to start soon and you were determined to become one of the chosen. Ever since you were a small child, you knew your calling was to serve the Ellcrys.

The countdown was starting and then you heard the signal to begin the race. You waited a moment and then began running, quickening your pace as time went by. You knew that if you started running as soon as the horn sounded, that you'd probably be stuck in a cluster. Waiting even a second could reduce that chance.

You had practiced this a million times with a blindfold on, learning where each tree was and where each dip in the earth was.

"Ah!"

Your hand nicked a tree and you knew that it was bleeding, but you had to keep going.

The end was near, you could feel it. Soon voices could be heard.

"Lorin! Number four of the chosen!"

"Only four more spots left!"

You pushed your legs foreword with as much force as you could muster up. There's no telling how many people were in front of you.

"Amberle! Number six of the chosen!"

"There's only two spots left!"

The voices of the crowd and announcers were louder this time.

Your legs kicked up grass every time they lifted from the ground, pushing further as hard as they could.

You were still running as hard as you could when you heard it.

"Y/N! Number seven of the chosen!

"One spot left."

"Who's it going to be?"

Your legs collapsed under you and you fell into the grass. The blindfold was being taken off of your eyes and you were blinded by the sunlight.

"Lorin?"

"Yeah, Y/N. I'm here. You did it. We did it."

You smiled brightly at the boy above you and grabbed his face, pulling him down to meet his lips with yours.
