Poem 10: The Mehdi

The 15th of Shaaban on us ascended,
As the rose of Zahra from the heavens descended,
The last chapter of God's book has been completed,
He is a promise that one day,
Islam's enemies will be defeated.

It began with a Muhammad,
And ends with Muhammad,
Look at the beauty and excellence of each personality,
And all they have achieved,
These qualities are all encompassed by the Mehdi.

I have heard that on his birth,
The moon was glowing brightly,
The stars stood still like the rest of humanity,
The trees and mountains bowing down in humility,
As joy spread from country to country,
City to city,
Today graced his presence upon the world,
The Mehdi.

In his eyes will be inscribed Karbala,
As in his hands,
We see the mighty Zulfiqar,
Oh son of the pure Lady,
We will never forget your arrival,
It is reason for our prayers.

Oh my master,
We are all gathered here waiting for you,
Our hearts ache for you,
If only you knew,
Yet we still have so much to do.

Our hearts are not pure,
Yet you,
We adore,
Our eyes for your sight explore,
I'm afraid we cannot wait much more,
As we raise our hands in prayer and our lord,
We implore.

Ya Imam,
Please hasten,
One by one,
They are killing your momin,
Bombing our countries,
And taking young children.

Yet never will we back down or be frightened,
With our smiles,
This world we will enlighten,
Never will we feel humiliated or beaten,
It will be worth everything,
When we hear your name on the lips of our children,
When we see in their hearts the same commitment.

We will uphold your legacy,
Our minds will be engrossed in your memory,
We pray one day,
You we will see,
And we will celebrate this milad in your company,
Offering you nasheeds and poetry.

I write this as a letter of my undying love,
And pray that it reaches you,
My beloved,
The words spreading wings and flying,
Like a pure white dove.

Salutations upon you,
My Master and your virtues,
Oh al Hujjat,
Please intercede for us in our akhira!
