Between 8: Gateway to Abyss

Chapter 14: Just in Time

90 minutes later...

The heroes peek out of the sewers.

Jared: "Once we're out, we're not going back. Ready?"

Lexi: "More than ready."

Odd: "I just want to take a decent shower."

Dimitri: "Y-Yeah."

Teens: "Lead the way."

Jared hops out and draws his saber.

Jared: "Then we're going home!"

Jared slices several Psychos into pieces while the others climb out.

Odd: "Central Quola, right?"

They look towards the center of Quola to find a crazy tall tower standing there.

Lexi: "Does that answer your question?"

Odd: "Yes, yes it does."

Teen 4: "Then hurry up!"

They head for Beat Tower.

Meanwhile...

The others are currently soaring across the skies in the carrier.

Jake: "This is fine."

Jade is currently vomiting in a trash can.

Jade: "(vomiting) No it isn't!"

Jason: "Better this than a boat."

Eryth: "Not only would we be more vulnerable, but you'd still be vomiting."

Jade: "(vomiting) What am I here again?"

Jamie: "Who knows."

Jay: "(yawning) I couldn't have said that better myself."

Jay passes out on the bench.

James: "We'll be quick about this."

Jack: "(smiling) But this is fun!"

Jade pukes again.

Jason: "Jade would disagree."

A half hour later...

Dimitri is pushing a pathway to the tower while the others follow.

Dimitri: "(struggling) Almost there!"

He smashes through the doors, getting everyone inside.

Odd: "Nailed it!"

However, there isn't enough stuff to barricade the door.

Lexi: "Uh... no we didn't nail it!"

The ravenous Psychos are coming straight for them.

Teen 2: "What the hell do we do?!"

Jared: "Get to the roof ASAP!"

They all run as fast as they can up each set of stairs.

Ten minutes later...

They can see the carrier about to reach Quola from about halfway up the tower.

Teen 3: "They're here!"

The Psychos are only a few feet behind them.

Teen 6: So are these guys!"

They know that once slip will cost them their lives.

Dimitri: "Less talking more running!"

They push themselves beyond their limit.

However...

Gabriel is watching all of this unfold.

Gabriel: "(chuckling) You won't escape with the key. This place shall be where the reign of Lucifer shall continue!"

He looks at Jared's gloves.

Gabriel: "Even if you do get through, you'll return. You will open the Gateway to Abyss!"

Ten minutes later...

They've just arrived at the top as the carrier begins to descend.

Teen 1: "(wheezing) Made it!"

The bottom opens up, but the Psychos have gotten to the top as well.

James: "Those are Psychos?!"

Jamie and Jason are ready to help people up.

Jason: "Grab on!"

Dimitri climbs up himself as Odd and Lexi get up.

Lexi: "(exhausted) Thanks."

Jamie: "Don't mention it."

The teens are helped to at a time, but Jared looks back at the Psychos.

Jared: "Get everyone else on!"

They barely get the last teen on, but the Psychos are trying to attack the carrier before Jared can get on.

Jamie: "Hurry!"

Jared: "There's no time! Get into the air and I'll catch up!"

Odd: "Don't be a dumbass Jared!"

Jared has a full charge.

Jason: "We'll trust you on that!"

The carrier begins to rise.

Odd/ Lexi: "Jared!"

He draws his saber as the voice echoes in his mind.

Voice: "Gateway to Abyss..."

Jared begins slicing through the Psychos like butter as the others come over to watch from above.

Jake: "He's moving through them like second nature!"

His saber overheats, forcing him to swap to chakrams.

Jack: "Wow!"

He slices several heads off in a single toss, but he catches them as they overheat and mid dodge.

James: "His weapons overheat?"

Dimitri: "He uses it to his advantage."

Jared lands headshot after headshot with laser discs.

Jay: "We're already 30ft above him. He's dead."

Enough Psychos have been dealt with, so Jared points his palms at the ground.

Jared: "Later!"

He uses his pulses to propel him into the air at a rapid rate, with the overheat happening just under the carrier.

Jared: "Help!"

Jamie grabs his arm just in time.

Jamie: "(struggling) A little help?!"

Jake and Jason help Jamie pull Jared into the carrier as the door begins to close.

Jake: "Welcome aboard."

Jared: "(wheezing) The pleasure is all mine."

The door closes as Jared plops onto his back.

Jared: "(exhausted) Can I take a nap?"

James: "Jay is."

Eryth: "So go ahe-"

Jared passes out as he mumbles these few words.

Jared: "(mumbling) Gateway to Abyss..."

The carrier heads back for the mainland...
