"Catra?"
Adora was shocked to say the least. Of all the people she expected to see at this party, Catra was at the bottom of that list.
"I should've known you'd be here," Catra said, looking Adora up and down. In her own hand was a half full red cup, not that she intended on getting drunk tonight. She needed a clear head if she was going to get inside Adora's.
Adora's expression hardened. "I didn't think I would see you at all. I mean, this is the high end of town."
Catra's eyes narrowed. Low blow, but two could play at that game.
"Thought I'd stop by," Catra grinned. She trailed her hand up Entrapta's back before resting her arm on the girl's shoulders, much to Adora's surprise. "My good friend Entrapta invited me." Catra reaches up and absentmindedly ran her fingers through one of the girl's purple ponytails, sneaking a glance at Adora, seeing if there would be any reaction.
Adora crossed her arms, feeling like she suddenly didn't want to be there anymore but she couldn't pinpoint exactly why. It's not that she desperately wanted to be away from Catra. She actually really wanted to talk to her but something about the whole situation was rubbing her the wrong way.
Glimmer and Bow exchanged glances, not wanting to see their friend upset but guilty of wanting some drama.
It was drama they wouldn't get. Without another word, Adora pushed past Catra, following the sound of bad music and hoping her friends would follow.
Catra watched her go, feeling the least bit satisfied. Was this actually working? Not wanting to push her luck too far, Catra led Entrapta to where Scorpia was waiting. She had watched the whole thing, grinning as she did.
"Oh, she was so jealous!" Scorpia squealed. "How did you know that would work?"
Catra shrugged. She really didn't think that was going to do anything. Instead of thinking about it too hard, she turned to Entrapta.
"That human-feeling experiment you want to do? I think we have a new subject for you," Catra said. "That is, if you're willing to help me out."
"Studying you has been interesting, but predictable," Entrapta admitted. "Examining a specimen who's feelings for the other are unknown could provide a much more compelling case."
Catra nodded, not really interested. If she wanted this to work, she was going to have to play her cards right.
"Hey Scorpia," Catra got her friend's attention. "I have an idea. I'll need your help though."
•••••
Adora groaned, pacing back and forth in the backyard. Music was playing from two different speakers so the only thing people could really hear was just loud bass. The smell of smoke filled the air meaning either someone was barbecuing or they set a lawn chair on fire, which honestly were both valid answers at this point. The pool was so crowded, it seemed like people could barely move but they were having fun so no one was going to stop them.
Adora was walking precariously close to the pool (never a good idea) while Glimmer and Bow supervised. This had been going on for maybe five minutes now. "-and she's so petty!"
"Mhm."
"It's like she's just trying to get on my nerves!"
"Uh-huh."
"What does she even get out of this?!"
