8. The Prison Turnabout

Sebastian Debeste

September 8 | 2:19PM
High Prosecutor's Office | Sebastian's Office Room 1202

I took a long sigh as I sat on my spinning chair. Today was definitely exhausting and overwhelming. Being back to court with an actual case that I worked on, it's an amazing opportunity and a refresher to the actual profession I'm destined for.

I glance at the pile of files on my desk. A note was attatched to it. It says:

"Excellent performance today.

-M.E"

I breathed out another sigh. I wouldn't even differentiate if this is a blessing or a curse for being assigned to so many cases at the first official day of the job.

No, I shouldn't complain because this is only the beginning of my career.

The door bursted open and revealed Franziska Von Karma. I scrambled on my chair and stood up.

"Debeste, I'm leaving with Interpol. Thanks for wasting my time in the investigation and trial. Try and beat me when I come back!" And with that said, she left with the door hanging open, "I will Franziska, take care!" I shouted back in instinct even when I knew the fact that she has vanished from the scene. Suddenly realizing it, I frowned and headed towards door and closed it.

Wasting her time? For all I could remember she was being generous half of the time being and guided me.

And I'm thankful for her enthusiastic whipping in court.

I shook off the thoughts and let out a chuckle as I returned back to my spinning chair and yawned.

The exhaustion lead me to be sleepy.

As I was about to lie my head down on the desk, a sudden knock on the door caused me to stand up in shock.

"Now who could that be?" I asked myself and my feet took me in front of the door, I held the knob and twisted it.

The door opened wide and she appeared in front of me, a smile flashed across her face.

"Kay Faraday?" I say.

"I wanted to visit, you know." She retorted and I gawked at her, "You're living with me so why the need to visit?"

"Well, thanks for figuring out who knocked me out!" She said with a chuckle and I responded, "I was only doing my job, it was no problem." Our gazes met and I intently looked at her.

She smiled again.

I followed her gaze and it landed on the object laying on her hands. A box with transparent cover were on her palms.

"Cupcakes?" I asked and a strand of my hair rose up. She handed the box to me and I thankfully accepted it.

"This is also a thanks for letting me live in your house. I don't know how to bake but I bought this. I'll pay, I swear!"

"Yeah, of course or I won't have anything to pay the bills." I replied, nonchalantly. She frowned at my response and my foot stepped backwards, attempting to return to my desk.
