He  was extraordinary. No one ever thought so; all they ever saw was what was tainted by his unfortunate past.

But not me.

I saw the way freckles dusted his ghostly face;

The way he bit the inside of his cheek when he was nervous;

The way he licked his achingly rosy lips when it got cold;

...The way he stared at me with those entrancing, iridescent eyes when he thought I wasn't looking.
