𝐑𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄"Are you okay?" Edmund took Reagan on his arms and hugged her as tight as he could.
"I am, I just..." the poor girl couldn't even talk from the shock, "I am, don't worry," she stated and started walking towards the ship.
Edmund could see that she wasn't okay and made a note to himself that he had to talk to her back at the Dawn Treader.
"Your Majesty, your Majesty!" a man yelled for Caspian and shortly after, the same little girl they had seen crying for her mother, hugged him, "my wife was taken this morning. I beg you, take me with you. I'm a fine sailor, been on the seas my whole life."
Caspian determined that the man had to go with them and he ordered the little girl to stay there with her aunt, with a promise that he would come back, as he always did. Another man interrupted them on their way back, but this time was one of the seven Lords of Telmar, who presented them with a sword telling them to find the remaining six, as they will protect all of them. Caspian then handed it to Edmund, who looked at it completely in awe.
As soon as they stepped into the boat, Reagan flew to her room and closed the door, not wanting to talk to anyone. But her wishes weren't heard because someone knocked at the door. She thought it was Lucy since they had to sleep together, but turns out it was Edmund.
"Reagan, what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, Edmund. I already told you I'm okay," she stated looking at him from her bed.
"Yeah, but I can tell you're not. Talk to me, please," he pleaded looking at her eyes.
"I just... I can't believe they put a price on us. And I can't believe the horrible things they said to us while we were there, displayed like we were toys or something like that," by this point, the girl had started crying already, "Aslan know what they would have done to us if the Narnians hadn't been there."
"It's all over now, Re. I promise. I would not let anything happen to you while I'm here," he spoke softly putting a strand of hair behind the girl's ear, "I'm going to be by your side all the time. You're even going to get tired of me."
"I don't think that's possible," she laughed lightly. Then both of them became quiet, looking into each other's eyes, getting lost in them. No words were needed for both kids to know that they needed each other tremendously. And then, in the middle of the moment, someone opened the door, making the two broke apart.
"Oh my God, I am so sorry. I didn't know..." she started apologizing for obviously interrupting the moment.
"It's okay, Lu. We weren't doing anything, just talking. Is everything okay?" Reagan smiled at her, her eyes still red from crying.
"Yes, I just... Caspian told me I was sleeping with you so I just figured that maybe we could talk a bit before going to bed, you know?"
"Oh yes, of course. I would love to. See you tomorrow, Edmund, have a good night," she hugged the raven-haired boy, him imitating her and wishing the girls good night as well.
"What was going on between you two?" Lucy asked as both girls were changing into their sleeping clothes.
"Oh, nothing. We were just talking because he had seen I was in a bit of a shock about what had happened before. But just that, just talking."
"Really? Because it looked like you were about to kiss," she insisted.
Not much later, Lucy fell asleep but Reagan was unable to, so after an hour of just rolling in bed she decided to step outside the room and breathe some fresh air. She was expecting to be alone but to her surprise, Edmund and Caspian were there already. Not wanting to disturb, she decided to wait until their conversation was finished. She was just about to step inside but then she stopped right on her tracks when she heard her name being mentioned.
"How's Reagan been?" Edmund asked the King.
"It's been... hard for her. She was certainly not ready to become a princess but I don't think it's my place to say this. She should tell you herself."
The girl saw how both boys were about to turn around and spot her so she revealed herself before they thought she was spying on them.
"Good night, boys," she approached them, "sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I just couldn't sleep."
"We neither, but I think it's my time to go to bet or otherwise I'll be too tired tomorrow, so good night," Caspian got up and walked to his room.
"I couldn't sleep either, I've just... been thinking a lot," Edmund explained while Reagan took a sit by his side. They were both facing the sea, with their legs hanging from the side of the boat. A ceiling of stars rested above their heads and they could see the little dots of light reflecting on the surface of the ocean.
"What have you been thinking about?"
"Everything. Peter, Susan, Narnia, Aslan, you."
"Me? Why would you be thinking about me?" Reagan asked completely innocent.
"I mean about what happened to you today. I don't want anything bad to happen to you, ever, you don't deserve it."
"Don't worry, Edmund," the girl place a hand on his leg to calm him down, "it won't, okay? I'll be more careful from now on."
The boy was at a loss of words. His eyes travelled from Reagan's hand to her eyes and back down to her hand. Thousands of thoughts were racing through Edmund's mind, and Reagan just looked at him expecting the boy to say something.
"Reagan," he called for her, only for Reagan to do a gesture signalling she was listening to him, "can I do something?"
"If you want to throw me out of the ship then beware that..." but before she could finish the sentence, Edmund's lips were on hers.
