CHAPTER 3

Opening up the doors to get out of there was pure relief, I could feel the cool air hitting my face making me relax. I took in a deep breath and pulled out my phone for the gps. I typed in Mimi's café and it said it was only a 10 minute walk from the school. I put in my earphones and listen to my playlist on Pandora.

I've never noticed all of the cool decorative buildings over on this side of town, everything seems so retro. I take it all in while trying to relax my mind.

I spot the café and walk up to it. It doesn't seem too busy right now so I walk in. I wait in line and look at the menu. I don't really like coffee but I'll give this place a shot. I look around and try to see if I recognize any one from high school.

"May I help you?" Tanya, the barista behind the counter asked me

I make my way up and look at the menu for another second

"I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but do you guys have an employee named Alex here? I don't know his last name but I thought I'd ask? I bite my lip hoping she would know

"Well we only have two, but since you said "he" I know you aren't talking about the female. He isn't in today, he's been off for the last couple of days, I'm sorry." I can see the frown form on her face when she said that

"Okay, I appreciate the help, but I'll get an iced caramel macchiato, I heard it was pretty good." I say to her while handing her my card. "Oh! And a fruit bowl."

She takes my card and swipes it

"Thank you, and I'll tell Alex you stopped by." She pulls out her phone

I could feel my eyes get big when she said that

"Oh no! That's okay, I'll just try to catch him when he comes back, I don't want to bother him."

She shrugs her shoulders and stuffed the phone back into her pocket. She hands me my drink with a smile and tells me to have a nice day

I walk out of the café and walked to one of the tables they had outside. I grabbed the one that was up against their window, it was a two seater with an umbrella. I pulled out my phone and texted Michael

"Hey I'm sorry, meet me?"

I sent the message and took a sip of my drink while I waited for him to reply.

Hmm... this actually isn't so bad

I felt my phone vibrate so I looked at it

"Where at?"

I sent him the address and waited for him to come.

I could feel my stomach start to tense up from nervousness.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Some guy says after running into me, knocking me and my food down.

He began to help me pick it up.

"Don't worry about it, I'll just go hungry now."

I was joking but not joking at the same time, I was really looking forward to my food

A chuckle escapes his mouth

I look up to see its Michael Weyman

"No, no one should go hungry, let me buy you a new one." He stood up then held his hand out to help me up

I stand up with his help and wipe everything off of me

Everyone in the food court at the mall is staring at us, but the one face that stands out is Candice's, drinking her soda and raising her eyebrows up and down at me.
