Chapter Nine- Open Sea

"Effie?" I hear Levi's voice in the darkness of my cabin.

"Levi?" I groan and sit up, turning on the lamp next to my bed, "What are you doing?"

"I- Can I sit?" He asks and I shrug.

He sits at the end of the bed and chews on his lower lip. I can feel his nervous energy, I feel like anyone near us could.

"What's wrong?" I finally ask breaking the tension.

He meets my eyes and tilts his head, "I wasn't trying to be a dick earlier."

"I wasn't trying to offend you either," I sigh and shrug, "Why'd you get so upset?"

He clears his throat, "I wasn't upset."

I chuckle, "You clearly were."

"It's just when I was Prince women were all over me and they would flirt with me the way you were joking," He explains and his eyes meet mine, "You doing it was something else, though."

His words hit me like a semi truck. Sexual tension fills the air around us and it makes me hot. I unintentionally hear every dirty thought racing through Levi's mind. We don't break eye contact for a few minutes and neither of us say anything before Levi smirks.

"You read my mind, didn't you?" His words are deep and full of lust.

"I didn't mean to," I mumble and finally look away.

The air feels so thick and hot I begin to panic. The way Levi made me feel without even doing anything drove me insane. His hazel eyes stared straight into my soul and set me on fire. I can feel everything he's feeling and thinking and eventually it becomes too much. I quickly get up and rush out of the room and up to the deck to get some fresh air.

You just ruined a perfectly good moment because you can't control me.

Maybe if you made it easier.

Wheres the fun in that?

I'm breathing heavy as I hear someone come up behind me, "Effie?"

Levi's raspy voice brings me back from my thoughts. He slowly walks up to me and cups my face in his hand, "What happened?"

"You," I admit, letting out a deep breath, "I can't control myself and you drive me nuts."

His face shifts from worry to confidence, "Really?"

As a smirk forms across his face before he drops his hand and steps back. I can feel the space between us and wish it was smaller again. I wanted him. I couldn't deny it anymore. Everything inside of me was screaming and burning for him.

"Yeah," I sigh, "I'm gonna go back to sleep."

I turn to walk away and he grabs my wrist and pulls me back towards him, eliminating all space between us. Our bodies touched everywhere and it sent chills all through me. I wanted this more than I even knew. 

Levi grabs my face and neck with one hand and pulls my face to his, our lips connected and I had flashes of flames and explosions. I could feel The Phoenix inside of me raging and trying to escape. Then just as quick as it started it was over and the space between us was there again.

I open my eyes and meet his, scanning for any emotion but seeing nothing. I open my mouth to speak but instead I just back up, creating more space between us.

"I couldn't help it," He simply says before walking back down to the cabins. 

I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding in before I sense someone else coming up to me. I turn and see Raven who is rubbing the back of her neck.
