If you are a resident of the Golden Gate City, you would have probably heard of or may have been at the fiasco premiere of Ava DuVernay's new and highly acclaimed film, Whirlwind, that occurred just two days ago.

Whirlwind has been the most talked about film in 2019, besides the MCU's Avenger's Endgame that premiered two months ago.

Director Ava DuVernay, who is famous for her work on Netflix's 6-part drama series When They See Us, has been awaiting for the day Whirlwind comes out to the world. The 47-year old director admitted that Whirlwind may be one of the best films she's ever participated in.

In our recent exclusive interview with DuVernay, we discovered a little more details about the film's premise and how she formed the multiracial cast.

Us Weekly: "Thank you so much for being here Ava. Congratulations on the film! Now, we love your work on the Central Park 5 based drama and we cannot wait to watch Whirlwind. Can you tell us a little more about the filming process as well as the casting process?"

Ava DuVernay: "Thank you for having me! Always happy to be back here with all of you! First things first, I just want to thank everyone for the amazing review we've gotten for When They See Us. All I wanted to portray to the world was the truth. And I did but I wanted to do something more. We live in a world where people are still unwilling to embrace differences and are afraid to love beyond their boundaries. That's how I came up with the idea of making Whirlwind. It focuses on modern day romance between two individuals who are very different. The casting process was surprisingly easy. A lot of talented actors came down to audition but I already knew who I wanted, to portray my main characters. So I called Amara Kishore and Dacre Montgomery down to audition and their auditions just further convinced me that no two other people can play out my characters except them."

Us Weekly: "I've seen the trailer and I think I speak for everyone when I say Dacre and Amara have amazing chemistry. They look beautiful together! From what I've heard, I'm guessing that they're some sort of star-crossed lovers?"

Ava DuVernay: "Right! They fit so well together, it was really easy to work with them on set. The main characters Adam and Divya are star-crossed lovers, in a way. They meet and they instantly fall in love however their individual families don't particularly agree with them being together. Divya is an Indian girl that comes from a family of strict Hindus, while Adam is a Caucasian and a Jew. So you can already see how this pans out, how many ups and downs they're going to have to go through during their relationship."

Us Weekly: "That sounds like it's going to end with a sad, teary-eyed ending."

AvaDuVernay: "You have to watch it and find out yourself!"

Well, there you have it. The premiere was joined by cast members Dacre Montgomery and Amara Kishore, who play the main star-crossed lovers, Adam and Divya. Also present at the premiere were actors Cate Blanchett, who plays Adam's strict Jew mother, Adinah, and Fawad Khan (seen together with his wife) who plays Divya's protective older brother, Ranveer.
