The first day of school

I waved my mom and dad goodbye
As I waited for the bus to come around the side

I tried to look positive on the outside
Even though I'm trembling deep inside

No one knows about the way I feel
Because I'm quiet and shy to reveal

Everyone else is excited and cool

I guess that's how it is on the first day of school.

I smile and wave as kids walk past
But deep inside, I know that won't last

I try to think of ways to stay cool
But that's pretty hard on the first day of school.

Classes start five minutes later
Every time I mess up, I know I can do better

The only time I ever cry
Is when I know that I didn't even try

People will try to bring me down
But my friends will help me stand my ground

I always try to behave good
Because that's how you act on the first day of school.

At the end of the day, we all head home
The only place where I'm not alone

Although no one is there to help me relax
I always know that they'll come right back

The story ends with a peaceful rest
A new day starts, with more things to test

In the end, you'll find your way through
Because that's how it is on the first day of school.
