"So you going to go to the party?" Leiya asked me. She was balancing her tray on one hand, holding her phone in the other. I was still waiting in the line to get my food.
I shook my head. "No way. She was a bitch and is now pretending like she did nothing. Well, I mean, technically she did do nothing. Aiden was bitching about me behind my back and she did fuck all apart from ask him more questions and stur shit."
"Okay, I'll drop the subject then. Anyway, I'm going to go find Hisashi. See ya later." She put her phone onto the tray then swerved through the tables in the cafeteria to find the rest of her squad.
I quickly got my food then went to find them, not wanting to be on my own for too long. I didn't like that nowadays. I used to love it, I've never been much of a people person, but with so many people to void I found they were less likely to talk or approach me if I was already talking to someone else. I did really like hanging out with Leiya and the boys, they were really nice people.
I searched through the tables but then I saw something which made my blood boiling hot. Aiden was sat at a table with Vivi on his lap kissing her. I wanted to go up to her pull her off him and slap her. She acted like she was my friend, we hadn't spoken in weeks, but she'd pretended she thought we were still friends, invited me to her birthday party and then she pulled this. She knew I liked him so why was she doing this?
Doing everything I can to push the anger aside, I find Leiya and the boys.
Leiya shot me a look, the kind checking if you're okay. I assumed she'd seen Aiden and Vivi kissing. I'd told her everything by now, she was kind of becoming my new best friend, and I couldn't not tell her after she caught me crying in the bathroom.
I shot her look back, trying to convey with my eyes that I'd talk to her later - the boys didn't know and as much as I liked them, I didn't want them to know.
"Hey, oh my god, I saw that bitch, Vivi, kissing Aiden Hawks. Finally, she found someone perfect for her." Hisashi said laughing.
Leiya hit him on the arm, warning him to shut up, and Elijah just looked embarrassed. I, however, just looked down at my tray, wanting to block out every word he's saying. It wasn't his fault - he didn't know the situation and I still wasn't ready to tell him. It was too humiliating.
"What? You always bad shit about her and suddenly I'm not allowed to? Remember that time she hit on me at a party and when I refused to make out with her in the bathroom she threw her drink over me?"
I sent her a what-the-fuck look. She sent me a not-now one back. There where a lot of looks flying around today.
"Yeah, but like can we not talk about it in the cafeteria. There are lots of people here and I don't want to cause any drama," she said, causing him to roll his eyes but he dropped the subject.
For the rest of lunch, I sat in silence while the rest of them made small talk and when the bell went I slipped away without the others even realising.
I was on my way to photography when Vivi called out for me.
"Mei, wait up, we have the same class, let's walk together."
I kept walking, ignoring her, pushing through the crowded hall, trying to get away from her faster. When I looked behind me, to see if she was still following me, I could see her running to catch up to me. She knew what she'd done. She didn't know I knew but what did she expect when she kissed him in front of the whole school like that?
"Mei, come on, please talk to me. I don't know why you're being like this." Her voice was sad, sulky almost, like she had no clue what on earth she could have possibly done to deserve this. And that made me angry, very angry. And, I snapped.
"Oh, you don't know do you?" I said bitterly. I could feel the rage burning through my body, fueling me, like coal would a fire.
"Um, no, I don't. For fuck's sake, Mei, just tell me why you're being so bloody hostile." Her voice was starting to get louder. We were alone in the hall, everyone had already gotten to their lessons, but if we weren't we would have been starting to draw a lot of attention to ourselves.
I stopped walking, staring at her, wondering if she was actually this naive. She must know, how could she not know? She seemed like she was being so honest, like she didn't have a clue that she'd just been kissing the guy she knew I liked. If there was one subject Vivi would definitely get an A in for A-levels, it was drama because she was a brilliant actress.
"How can you not know?" I exclaimed. "You were kissing him for the whole school to see like it was some sort of show you were putting on for everyone. Did you seriously think I wouldn't see?" I could feel my fists clenched at my sides, my nails digging into the palms of my hands.
"Oh, so that's what you're mad about. You're mad that he likes me and not you. Listen, it's not my fault he rejected you, okay? He just didn't like you, I know it's hard to hear but it's the way it is. You just need to get over it." She said it so matter-of-factly, she left me dumbfounded. It seemed like Aiden had stolen all her empathy. When Xander dumped me, she was all 'I'm gonna beat the crap out of that boy' and 'he's so not good enough for you, you deserve so much better'. But with Aiden, she was telling me to just get over it and it wasn't her fault he liked her better than me. What a friend she was.
"You're a bitch, Vivien Cashmore." I looked her dead in the eye as I said it then walked of to photography class, leaving her standing alone in the hallway.
I heard her call after me. "Oh fuck you, you are so uninvited from my birthday party."
I just smiled and continued walking. I didn't need to say anything else. She may have got the boy but we both knew I'd won this round of the fight.
