All of “Chen An’s” savings from before was swindled from him by his little boyfriend Liu Xiao Jie for his private fundraising. But how could he have possibly known that he would be deceived and that all his savings were instead privately used by Liu Xiao Jie and his new boyfriend, Wang Hao?

This Wang Hao was a ‘HaiGui’ from the second generation (of an official)/Guan Er Dai, which was why “Chen An” who was only a small business owner without authority or power couldn’t retaliate against him and could only choose death.

Someone who has experience of studying aboard. It’s also a homonym for turtle (as a joke), so here I think it is used to mock him.

Next, the use of word Guan ErDai (children of officials) here is also to mock him for being spoiled and having corrupt behaviors like his parents. This was also why the previous Chen An couldn’t retaliate as Wang Hao has the backing of his parents who are or one of them is an official.

It had been several months since their unpleasant encounter at the gym. Although Wang Hao still remembered clearly how he was beaten up by Ding Sheng, Wang Hao didn’t seem to recognize this man in front of him who took the initiative to call out to him.

“Chen … Chen An?!”

After being stunned for a moment, Wang Hao suddenly shouted the man’s name in astonishment. He stared wide-eyed at this extraordinary, elegant and refined man in front of him and almost couldn’t believe that this man was the same Chen An who was once both fat and ugly.

If it wasn’t because of his voice, and because he remembered that Chen An had started dieting and orthodontics (treatment to correct his teeth) when they met at the gym, he basically wouldn’t have been able to connect that fat and unsophisticated man from before with this man before him who was brimming with confidence.

For a while, Wang Hao could not accept this shocking fact. He even forgot how in the past he had disdainfully called Chen An trash.

“How could you be here?”

It was shocking, truly shocking. Wang Hao slowly recovered his composure, but he still stared unwaveringly at the man in front of him with a surprised expression. If it wasn’t because of the people watching, he would have rubbed his eyes hard to confirm that he wasn’t dreaming.

In the past, he really loathed this man named Chen An. The biggest reason being that he looked down on this fat and unsophisticated man who was both ugly and uncultured. As a hedonist son with rich parents, he took pleasure in seeing a man he despised fall into a quagmire of failure.

But now Chen An suddenly turned into someone pleasing to the eyes. Unlike the past, he didn’t have any fatness that made people feel disgusted, he didn’t have those hideous teeth which made him feel nauseous every time he saw them, and he wasn’t an uncouth oaf like before.

It was like all of a sudden a frog (slang for an ugly person) from the fields had suddenly turned into a nobleman in the palace, which was why it he found it so difficult to accept.

“You weren’t under the impression that I was the entertainer, right?” Chen An faintly smiled as he lifted his glass and took a small sip of the transparent white grape juice that looked like wine.

“The entertainer couldn’t possibly wear such clothes like yours.”

Wang Hao wore a complicated expression seeing Chen An’s natural demeanor. In the past whenever Chen An appeared in front of him, he would always shout crazily in a loud voice for him to return his money.

In the beginning, before he had cheated Chen An out of his money, Wang Hao acted like “a friend” towards “Chen An”. He still remembered that he was a country bumpkin from the countryside and whether it was his manner of speech or his bearing, it was both vulgar and full of suspicion.

How did someone like that transform intothis person in front of him? Leisurely chatting with him with ease, this kind of bearing couldn’t be a feigned act.

When he recalled the past and how he was once beaten by that young man beside Chen An at the gym, Wang Hao felt a bit apprehensive and frowned: “Are you going to take revenge on me?”

After he was beaten up at the gym, Wang Hao immediately investigated the relationship between that young man and Chen An so he could find some way to deal with them but the result was really beyond his expectation. Even in the past, he was always the one that bullied others, but for the first time ever he was the one being bullied, and he couldn’t even do anything about it.

But it was only because the one who thrashed him had a special identity, it was so extraordinary that he wasn’t even able to determine that young man’s real identity.

But Wang Hao remembered that the young man called Ding Sheng was together with Chen An. Could it be that Chen An was able to become someone like this because of that man called Ding Sheng?

“How could I possibly take revenge on you? There is an old saying ‘when placed on a field of death, one will find a way to live’. Even though I was previously bankrupt, I now have a much better life compared to the past, isn’t that right?”

Meaning: to find a way out of an impasse or to fight desperately when confronting mortal danger (idiom based on Sunzi’s “The Art of War” 孙子兵法)

His lips faintly curved up, when Chen An glanced towards Wang Hao who was still staring at him fixedly, the smile on his lips grew deeper.

“The auction is almost starting.” He didn’t plan to chat with Wang Hao any longer so Chen An gave him a random excuse then turned around and left.

The bait was already thrown, he just needed to wait for the fish to take the bait. Chen An’s real motive wasn’t the auction items anyways so he told President Ma that he had matters to attend to at home and left right when the auction started.

He deliberately chose to leave before Lu Feng arrived since he was trying to avoid being in contact with him as much as possible. Even though he had a different body with a new identity, but who knew … if Lu Feng who knew him extremely well could recognize him or not?
