When I Was a Kid on Christmas Morning

I couldn't sleep at night,
Terrified of Santa Clause coming at night.
I was so excited for it to not be night,
I never did like Christmas night.

When I was a kid on Christmas morning,
The word stopped and, with it, the world's mourning.
Everything felt bright and euphoric,
The air was light, you could get blinded from it.
Toys littered the living room,
As my parents would smile,
"Santa came!", if only we knew.

I cherish the memories of Christmas morning so fondly,
And I hope to pass down each and every story,
To the little ones I one day make Christmas perfect for,
And I'll look back, smiling,
Reminiscing about when I was a kid on Christmas morning.
