I wasn't sure how I thought I'd be able to get out of this test. I lived with Evan, and Scott is my neighbor. And Evan certainly didn't have any caution of dragging me from my bed. I don't know what it was, but the entire morning I just felt so low on energy.
I'd always been used to the high levels of energy that came with being supernatural. Maybe I was losing my edge? Was it because of how long I'd been back here? I don't know, the more I thought about it, the less sense it actually made.
I stood behind Stiles, leaning against the lockers like the rest of them. While also trying to avoid having to talk to any of them.
"Where's Lydia?" Kira asked.
"She took it her Freshman year." Stiles answered. Malia turns her head sharply in his direction, clearly on edge.
"Does that mean I could have taken it some other time?" She questions.
"Malia, you studied harder for this than any of us." Scott reminded her. Of course, that didn't amount to much. Seeing as she's attended less school than any of us.
"Doesn't mean I'm gonna do good." Malia shakes her head.
"Well...." Stiles mutters under his breath.
"Well, what?" She demands.
"It's, do well, not good." He tells her reluctantly.
"God!" She sighs, beginning to freak out.
"Okay, okay..." Stiles rubs her shoulder comfortingly.
"We're doing this." Scott insists. "Because while we're trying not to die, we still need to live. If I survive high school, I'd like to go to college. A good college."
"It's only three hours." Evan said optimistically. "We can survive three hours."
"Unless someone blows up the school." I said sourly. Everyone turns to me with somewhat questionable expressions.
"It's just three hours." Scott nodded. I looked ahead, the line beginning to move into the classroom.
"Whatever." I broke our eye contact. "Let's just get this over with."
I walked past them, walking quickly into the classroom. I waited impatiently as they checked in the other students. I stamped my finger print on the test, and picked up a pencil. I headed to find a seat when I saw Mrs. Martin standing at the edge of the desk with a small envelope.
"Cell phone in the envelope, Kara." She instructed. "You'll get it back after the test."
I reluctantly pulled it out, checking the screen one last time. I thought there might've been something from Derek, but I quickly dismissed it after remembering our conversation last night.
"Derek!" I said, trying to get his attention as I sped down the hall. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." He nodded once he saw me approaching.
"Where's Braeden?" I asked.
"Still out of it." He nodded to the side. I turned around, seeing Braeden lying unconscious in a hospital bed in a room a few feet away.
"What happened out there?" I asked, looking around cautiously for prying ears.
"We were searching for Satomi's pack, she's the only one we found alive." He answered.
"How many were there?" I questioned.
"Maybe a dozen." He shrugged.
A dozen wolves, dead. The thought angered me after the pact I'd made with Scott just a few hours earlier. So much for saving everyone.
