chapter two

Everything was blurry, spinning. I tried focusing, but it was hard.

Once regaining my eyesight, I blinked, seeing just a light.

Light, white light, cold floor, cold chain...tools, knife...? Sharp hook?! NOOSE?!

I shrieked. I was in a basement, somebody's basement! I didn't like it! No! I want out!

The yelling upstairs stopped, and I heard footsteps coming down.

It was him. The man from the bookstore!

He clapped. "You woke up! Great job! You were only out for 5 hours. New record." He sat down on a chair, resting his head on the top rail.

"W-w-w-what...am I d-d-doing here?! Let m-m-me go!!" I squirmed, but the chains held me back.

He scratched his head, as if I wasn't even there!

I started crying. "P-p-please...l-let me o-out...I'll do an-anything..."

"Ugh...you're a whiner, are you? I hate girls like you." He plugged his ears and bit his lip.

I sniffled, tears falling down my face. "W-w-why...? What'd I d-d-do?!"

He sighed. "I thought you wanted to give him some company.."

H-huh...? Give...who company...?

"Bum!! Come on, you little shit!" He called out, smiling at me.

B-Bummy...?!

I saw Bum hesitantly make his way down the stairs, sniffling. "I'm sorry, Lis!!"

"Oh my fucking god, all of you are fucking crybabies!" The man growled.

Bum was tripped by him, falling down on the ground. He grunted, sitting up. He didn't seem fazed at all. How long has this been going on?

The man grabbed Bum by the hair, earning a small whine from him. "Anyway..let's do introductions! Bum, this is Elissa, Elissa, this is Bum. Elissa, I'm Sangwoo." He smiled.

"I know his name." I growled. I didn't like the way Bum was being treated.

"Oh my! You're getting feisty!" He threw Bum back down on the ground, standing up from the chair he was sitting on.

"Let Bum go! You can keep me...but just let him go!" I screamed.

He laughed. "Did I say that's how it's gonna work? No. So shut up." He growled.

He grabbed something from a desk. The book.

"I said if I liked this damn thing, I'd let you off the hook, didn't I?" He smiled, sitting back down. "So really, your fate is hidden in me and this book."

"W-w-what about B-Bummy...?" I sniffled. I won't rest easy until I find out.

"Aww, me and Bum have a special bond. He wouldn't wanna leave me, isn't that right?" He smiled.

Bummy gulped, turning away. He gave a small nod. "I'm sorry..."

Bum...n....no...

"Oh, Elissa." Sangwoo smiled. "You're so, so helpless. It's almost annoying. You're relying on this little piece of shit." He pulled Bum to him by his hair.

I flinched in horror. "P-please! Stop!" I started crying. I couldn't watch it!

"What's wrong? Can't see a little torture?" Sangwoo tilted his head, kissing the cheek of my best friend.

"I love Bum, and Bum loves me. That's all there is to it. Now," he sighed, standing up. He grabbed a baseball bat.

My eyes widened in horror. What was he gonna do with that thing....?!
