the sky turned lilac,
the winds blew away the leaves.
autumn evening it was,
when i first found your eyes.

you were looking directly into mine,
your grey eyes trying hard to read my brown ones.
and for the first time in forever,
i wanted to let my guard down.
i wanted someone, i wanted you
to be able to look within me,
to read my thoughts,
to understand me; to know me more.
and you did.
you looked within me, you read me like an open book,
you studied me every inch; you understood me.
and still, you never left.

it was surprising, you know.
for once, there had been someone who stayed, who accepted me.
i had expected you too,
to turn around and walk away, the very same evening.
but instead, you surprised me by staying,
by holding my hand,
by leading me to a new light with you,
and witnessing the new sunrise together.
