“State of Grace” was released as the fourth and final promotional single off the album, and it was the only promotional single on Red that wasn’t re-issued as an official single.
According to Taylor, the song serves as both the introduction and the conclusion of this album. As the first track on the album, it serves as a warning for what love can be – both amazing and devastating. Essentially it can go both ways, depending on how we go about it.
Throughout the song we see her detailing the beginning of a love with all it’s possibilities and there is an utterly romantic sentiment and charm about the uncertainty and expectations that come along with any new beginning.
The song went on to be performed at the second season of The X Factor and at 2012’s Z100 Jingle Ball. Later it served as the opening track of The Red Tour and it was performed acoustically at the first show in Landover of the repuation Stadium Tour
