You had always been a rather shy and timid person, so when you informed your family about your position at Namba, they were very surprised. Not that they cared. When you left there were no tearful goodbyes, no hugs, no 'I hope to see you soon'. Nothing. But that was to be expected from them. You had managed to become the opposite of the people that had raised you. They were loud, boisterous, and extroverted. You had always been in your families shadow due to your quiet and timid nature. You were easily intimidated and rather jumpy. You shook your head as you walked down the halls of Namba, pushing them to the back of your mind. They never thought of you so it was no use wasting your time thinking about them. You pushed the large doors to the training ground open. Inori had called for you. Again. You usually took his spot watching the inmates during training, meaning that you were well acquainted with Samon. He was the other guard that was on duty at that time. After talking with you for several days, he had managed to get you to talk; a feat in itself. You sat on the bench as you gazed at the inmates as they trained. You looked back to the ground as you usually did. You never enjoyed making eye contact. It was scary. "(Y/n)!" Yelled Samon as he grabbed your shoulder. You yelped in surprised as you turned to him, "Y-yes sir." You said in your small voice. He rolled his eyes, "I told you to, just call me Samon." "O-okay." He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Inori walking out of the doors. "The Warden just called a meeting." He said in his usual un-interested voice. Samon cocked his head, "Then who's going to help watch the inmates? There has to be two guards during training." Inori rolled his eyes then turned his head to face inside the building, "HOUNDZUKI." A yelp sounded from the hall followed by quick footsteps. "Coming Inori-san" said a quiet voice. You came out from behind Samon as he came into view. Houndzuki, wore a white robe with gold-trimmed sleeves. He had two sashes draped over himself; on purple and one yellow. His boots were white and gold as was his hat, which had a long white vail to match. His light-purple eyes were cast to the ground as he clutched his white staff with gold rings at the top. He was quite pretty in your opinion. "Samon got called into a meeting, watch the inmates with (y/n)." "Y-yes sir." He said as the two walked away. You didn't know how to start a conversation, so you just sat back down on the bench looking down at the ground. Due to your 'up bringing' you expected to be ignored by everyone. That's why you were surprised when he said "Hello." You jumped in your seat, shyly turning you head towards him. You looked at the staff in his hands as you talked, "H-hi." "It's been a while, hasn't it?" You nodded your head. "Yeah. Work's been crazy. You've been promoted, haven't you?" He nodded, smiling, "I've been promoted to Junior guard. You're a guard, right?" You felt the edge of your lips quirk up. "Actually..." You took out your new ID badge and handed it to him. You saw his eyes widen as he read it out loud, "Deputy Supervisor? But how?" You shrugged, "I have a lot of extra time." You thought of all of the extra time you had spent working of holidays. There was no point in going back to visit them. You heard someone clear their throat behind you. You turned around to see a guard, "Deputy Supervisor (Y/n), you have a visitor." You cocked your head to the side. You had no family. Well, none that cared, so who could it be. Houndzuki sensed your apprehension. He also knew your situation. He didn't know much, but he had learned that you had no one that would come to visit. He linked his arm with yours, "I'm going with her." "Junior guard Houndzuki yo-" "L-let him come with me." Came your gentle voice, silencing the guard. They both looked at you. "Please." The guard nodded. He waved his hand and two other guards took your place. You walked to the visiting room with Houndzuki in silence. When you got to the door, the guard gave you a small bow, "Deputy supervisor." You bowed back as he let you and the white-clad guard in. There, behind the thick glass, was the people who had let you go off to some unknown location where they could possibly never see you again without so much as a goodbye. You squeezed his arm slightly and he put a comforting arm on your shoulder, "You don't have to do this." You nodded, "I know." You walked with him to the glass and took a seat. "(Y/n)! My baby! How have you been?" You were taken aback by her greeting. For your whole life your 'mother' had barely acknowledged you existence, and now you're her 'baby'. You 'father' sat on a seat on the side of you, "Hi honey!" he said, smiling sweetly at you. "Hi." You said simply, going back to your quiet self. "We just came to congratulate you about your promotion! We're so proud of you!" You cocked your head to the side. How did they know about that? "Thanks." You said quietly. "We wanted to get you something, but we just didn't have the money." Said your mom. You raised an eyebrow. They definitely had the money when they 'invested' in your sister's singing career. They put their life savings into that. You remained quiet. "Oh! I'm so glad you asked!" your dad said as if you had asked why they didn't have the money. "Your sister's career didn't take off quite as we had planned." You could hear the anger in his voice, though it was slightly masked. Your mother frowned, "We're barely making ends meet." You remembered all of the times that they said that they hadn't been making ends meet. You had learned that it was their way of saying that they had blown all their money on your sister or on themselves. Your dad placed a hand on your mom's shoulder, "Your mother lost her job, too. One of her co-workers got her fired for something she didn't do." You highly doubted that as she had always played dirty. Your dad rubbed the back of his neck, "You know, we hate to do this to you, but we wanted to ask you if we could possibly have some money. Just a little bit. Enough to get us by." You felt your face heat up with anger. They abandoned you for all those years, and now they come crawling back just because they needed money. "No" you said quietly. Your mom laughed, "Excuse me?" "I said, no." You said, looking her in the eye. At your refusal, their façade broke, "You're clearly making enough money. And we raised you. So give us the money." It had always scared you when people raised their voices at you. You gripped Houndzuki's armed harder. "No." You said, getting up. Houndzuki stood with you. "GIVE IT TO US YOU LITTLE WHOAR" your father said, banging his fist on the glass. You hid your face in Houndzuki's arm with a squeak. "Get out." You heard him say quietly. "What?" Asked your mom. "I said." He looked at them straight in the face, "Get out. And never come back." Your parents were pulled out by some guards at Houndzuki's request, "YOU'RE A WORTHLESS EXCUSE FOR A DAUGHTER. YOU DON'T DESERVE THIS." You tried to calm your breathing as you looked up at Houndzuki. "You...you stood up for me." He smiled kindly, "Of course. I wouldn't let those cruel people hurt you." You thought for a second, then stood on your toes and gave him a peck on the cheek. He completely froze up, his face turning completely red. "thanks~" You said shyly. "N-no problem." He managed to get out. You chuckled. You grabbed a sheet of paper from the counter and wrote on it. You handed it to him and began to walk away. "I have paperwork to do. See you later. Tell Noriko I said hi." He nodded and looked at the paper you handed him. It had your number on it with a little heart. He smiled as he felt his face flush and ran for a phone to tell his sister about his accomplishment.

So turns out I'm not dead. Sorry if this chapter is a bit crappy. I wanted to write a little something because why not. Also I have something to say. So I got a Bob Ross shirt right? It had cartoonish Bob Ross, squirrels, and Christmas trees. I wore it for a whole day. A  W H O L E  D A Y. Before I realized that the trees had smily faces on them. Do you know what that makes the trees? They're happy little trees. H A P P Y  L I T T E  T R E E S. I smiled dumbly about this for like a whole hour so I thought that I'd put it here. Anyways thanks to everyone who voted and commented and added my story to their reading list. I'll put their names down in the next update because it's late and yeah. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it and see you in the next chapter! So YEET.
