'The roots of a redwood have been said to reach for miles. The branches of its forest entangle as they grow. They are an old and weary people, yet their roots remain unscathed. The marks of these Dryads are as such.'

We start with the first memory a Dryad regains. It only seems right.

A young woman looked down at the shaking Dryad as she poised her axe for the felling swing. The trunk of this tree was thick, but she had won. 'Pathetic' the young woman thought as the Dryad hissed in pain. She heard a strong gust of wind sing through the tree tops. Her long, black hair lifted in a soft breeze. She swung her axe. Thunk! It hit precisely on target. The tree crashed to the ground as it's Dryad gave a heart wrenching shriek. Yet another Dryad dead. She heard the wind whistle around her, but there was no change in its touch against her skin. She spun around just in time to see a tall, slender woman with deep red hair walking towards her.

"Who are you? What's your name?" The younger woman slowly began to reach for her sword. The other being didn't utter a sound. "Are you a Dryad?" Still no answer. She knew what it was. It was obvious from the mark on it's forehead. There was no time to find its tree, let alone chop it down. There was a whining like that of a tornado as the tall woman rushed towrad her. She seemed to glide along the ground, "Damn it." These were her last words as she was skewered by a tree's roots.

The red haired Dryad stared deep into the young woman's eyes as she whistled in the Dryad's windy tongue. "A life for a life."

There was blood. Blood everywhere. She was dying. It was all too fast. The young woman thought about her life. It was short. The war started when she was just 11. All people, age 13 and up, were drafted immediately. Anyone who was within 3 years of becoming 13 was given a waiting draft. They were to enter the army as soon as they were eledgable. She couldn't remember her name. She had one once. It was a sad name. Though now she was only known by a number. Havoc Soldier S026. It had been ten years since she joined the army. She wondered what was next. What was on the other side of the bright light in front of her? Was she good enough to get into heaven? Was it worth it? What was the point? Did she do anything to help her cause? Was she good enough? Would Marauder Q05 be proud of her?

She didn't feel like the pain was leaving. There were voices too. They were too muffled for her to understand and the ringing was slowly growing. It soon became a deafening roar and everything became as white as fresh snow. Then, it all vanished in a snap. Everything, everything was gone. The ringing, the white, her memory, and all former identification. She had nothing.

Thus, Mordra, the Great Red Dryad, was brought forth. A sapling in The Forest of Redwood.
