MONET RACED THROUGH HER
front door, dressed head to toe in her homecoming attire. Night was beginning to settle in, but that took no damage to Monet's mood. The way she looked tonight, she was a princess in the purest form. In the realest way. She found Jett's head poking out the side of his car, waving down at the girl. Most girls would have wanted their homecoming to be with someone they liked– maybe even loved– but to Monet, it hadn't mattered all that much. She was still going with someone she cared about and that was good enough for her.

Jett opened the passenger door for Monet from the inside of the car. "I'm guessing this is the part where I tell you, you look beautiful, but eh." Monet playfully gasped, punching his shoulder— she did not get all dressed up to get an 'eh'. Jett laughed, rubbing his shoulder. "I'm kidding Monnie. You look gorgeous."

"Thank you Jett," Monet smiled. Jett began driving towards the school. And Monet felt a hundred times better. She was determined to have the best night of her life. Trouble-free.

Monet and Jett walked up to Mr. Mazzara who was manning the ticket station. Upon arriving, they were allowed entranced and placed at table ten— along with all the other theatre kids who came to this event. Really, it was a miracle anyone came at all. With sport competitions coming up, Student Council Elections, Robotic's Club trip to China, and the production of HSM, pretty much everyone was busy. Monet had almost forgotten about elections due to everything going on, and if she wanted to win this thing— she was not going to be distracted. Coincidentally, Homecoming was the biggest distraction around.

Ricky tapped his fingers around the clothed-table impatiently, he was waiting for something– but he didn't know what that something was. It felt like something was missing and it didn't sit right with the boy at all. Even with Big Red blabbering in his ear, and Ashlyn trying to console Carlos (because his date– Seb hadn't shown up) he felt incredibly bored. He was supposed to be here with Nini, not his best-friend, and Nini wasn't even here yet. Hell, she probably wasn't coming at all.

He felt bored until Monet walked in.

Technically, this was his second time seeing her red dress. The first time however, he had been so lost in his feelings that he didn't care all that much about it. The second time, now, a new emotion scurried his boredom away. The way her hair had been neatly curled to rest on her shoulders, how her dress hadn't been able to reach the floor showcasing her black converse sneakers, and the way she looked incredibly happy made his heart swoon at the sight.

Seeing Jett beside her with the same earning grin, made him quite jealous. And now suddenly, he was back to being disconsolate. He wanted to be the one beside her, admiring how her dress wrapped around her waist instead of Jett having the pleasure to do so. He wanted to dance with her because it meant everything to him at the moment.

They approached the table and Ricky was quick to advert his attention. The last thing on his mind was Nini. Remembering how he had placed a chaste kiss on Monet's cheek the other night made him think all types of thoughts. The innocent— and the not so innocent. Monet slipped into the seat beside him, smoothing out her dress as she sat down. Jett sat beside her, adjusting the bow tie that hang around his neck. He threw Ashlyn a small wave, which she had reciprocated just as quickly.

"You clean up nice Bowen." Monet said, moving to pour herself a cup of soda.

"I dressed to impress," Ricky grinned.

"Well, I'm certainly impressed. Whose your date?" Monet asked, tilting her head to the side to try to find a girl wrapped around his arm. She expected to see Nini. She didn't see anyone.

"Don't laugh but um— Big Red?" He pointed to his best friend who responded with two thumbs up. While Ricky had asked her not to laugh— she did so anyway, clutching her drink like her life depended on it. "Okay, it is a little funny." Ricky laughed along, finding her smile all too cute— he could not resist.

Jett poked her shoulder, drawing Monet's attention from Ricky and his 'date'. "Let's go take some pictures!" Monet excitedly nodded, leaving her drink behind she followed Jett to the professional photographer who stood in front of some classic homecoming background.

When the two left, Big Red hit Ricky's shoulder. "Ow! What was that for?" Ricky asked, rubbing his shoulder to soothe the pain.

Big Red was going to talk about something he had randomly remembered, but instead switched the topic due to the concern he held for his friend. "What's wrong with you? You're face is very red."

Ricky covered his face, trying to avoid the subject altogether. "My face isn't red! What are you talking about?"

"It totally is dude! I mean, the only person you were talking to was— oh. Oh!" Sudden realization hit Big Red. "You're totally crushing on Monet!"

Ricky's eyes widen, trying to hush his friend. Carlos and Ashlyn stared at the boy weirdly but let it slide— for they had another problem to deal with. "Dude! Don't say that so loud! I don't have a crush on her... I just think she's pretty cute, that's all. Don't make this a big deal." He huffed.

"It a huge deal! After Nini I thought you were gonna be single for the rest of high school. I'm glad you're getting back out there again. You deserve it." Big Red patted Ricky's back.

"It doesn't matter anyways. Jett's in love with her and I don't want to take that away. I know how much that hurts." Ricky settled into quietness, observing the way Jett and Monet giggled together. "At least she's happy."

"She is happy. But that doesn't mean she loves Jett." Big Red advised. Ricky knew what he was saying was true, Monet had even told him herself, but he couldn't help but wonder. "I say go after her! When the slow dance comes along, just ask her to dance with you. Simple."

"I'm not sure if I want to be taking dating advice from you." Ricky laughed, running his finger around the rim of his cup. He looked back up, finding Monet looking back at him. She smiled, throwing up a random peace sign to go along with beam.

Big Red was right— Ricky Bowen had a crush on Monet Parsons.
