004: Family Ties

"Hey, Colby," Blake greets as she walks behind the bar, ready to work.

"Long night?" Colby asks, noticing how dark the skin around Blake's eyes is.

"Damon Salvatore came over," Blake says, she told Colby she likes him. "We talked all night."

"Are you sure that's all you did?" Colby teases.

"Oh, I wish," Blake replies as she watches as a day drinker enters. "Here we go..." she walks over. "You're new," she says as she notices him.

"Alaric Saltzman, from Boston," the man says. "Supposed to be a new history teacher. I'm not starting yet. I'm just getting moved to town."

"Well, Alaric, welcome to Mystic Falls," Blake muses. "I'm Blake Gilbert."

"Nice to meet you," Alaric replies. "Can I Can some bourbon on ice?"

Blake nods with a warm, welcoming smile before she gets Alaric's drink ready. Alaric watches her in awe; she's young and pretty, and a bartender.

"Blake," Robert says as he walks out. "Your birthdays tomorrow."

"Yep," Blake replies as she slides the glass toward Alaric. "Good ole' twenty-two."

"At least you're with your family for this birthday," Colby adds as he sits in a stool they have behind the bar. "And us."

"You guys are my family," Blake says. "I'm still the black sheep."

Colby squeezes Blake's bicep before Alaric ask for some more bourbon.

"Happy early birthday," Alaric says to Blake as she pours him some more booze.

"Thanks," Blake replies as she puts the bottle up.

Blake heads to the back with a bottle of water. She puts some liquified vervain onto the water and she drains it so that she can have the herb fatal to vampires in her system and she gets back to work.

"Blake, turn that tv up," Colby instructs.

Blake nods and she grabs the remote from the bar, Alaric has left not long ago. Liz Forbes is on the screen, she remembers when her from her adolescent, Liz arrested her a few times in high school.

"I can confirm that a twelve foot puma mountain lion attacked a hunter and was subsequently shot and killed," sheriff Liz Forbes says onto the screen.  "The hunter is in stable condition."

The camera switches to Logan Fell. Blake remembers Logan. Jenna told her all about Logan, because Jenna was out of high school before Blake was. From what Jenna told the brunette, Blake doesn't like Logan. He doesn't sit well with her.

"To repeat," Logan says to the viewers, "the animal terrorizing Mystic Falls has been caught."

"I have a bad feeling that, that animal is still out there," Colby comments as he rubs his hands over his jeans.

"Me too, Colby," Blake replies. "Me too."

Colby sighs before he begins wiping down the bar. Robert and Blake worked on Blake's schedule, Blake works morning shifts with Colby from now on. Robert has got a new afternoon bartender.
