You were sitting in your apartment, watching the rain pour outside. It was raining terribly. The wind was pretty awful, too. You were sitting near the window, listening to music, when you noticed the lights went out. You took off your headphones and you looked around, realizing that the power was out in your apartment. You cursed, watching as the rain seemed to fall even harder. You grabbed your phone to call Sam.
You had known Sam since you guys were kids. You had moved to LA together and you had apartments in the same building. Yours was on the floor below his. When you moved out to LA, you realized that you had some feelings for Sam. You just didn't want things to be awkward between the two of you, so you told yourself that he couldn't find out.
Sam picked up on the second ring.
"Hey, Sam! Is your power out?" you asked, turning and looking in your apartment.
"Yeah. Is yours?" he asked.
"Yep."
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" he questioned with excitement in his voice.
"No..." you trailed off, waiting for an explanation.
"Why don't we hang out during the power outage? You can come over and bring pillows and blankets and we can film some random stuff for my channel!"
"Sounds awesome! Want to see if Colby would join us?" you asked.
"No, he's out with Brennan right now," he informed you.
"Alright. I'll be up in a minute," you told him. You hung up and you quickly grabbed some supplies before hurrying up to Sam's apartment.
You knocked on the door and Sam came shortly. You dumped all of your supplies on his couch and you turned to look at him.
"What do we do first?" you asked with a smile. He dashed into his closet and found his filming camera. It still had battery in it.
"What's up guys, it's Sam. Today, I'm here with (Y/N) in my apartment. Apparently, the power is out in our building, so we've decided to have some fun," he said, wiggling his eyebrows. You giggled and he smiled at you. "First, we gotta get some light in here."
You guys went through the house, trying to find flashlights and things.
"Sam, where are all your seance candles?" you asked as you searched in cabinets. You heard him laugh and you grinned, too.
Eventually, you guys found enough sources of light so you could see. Although the window let in some light, it was cloudy, so you still needed the extra stuff. The combination of flashlights, nightlights, and candles was pretty funny to you.
"Alright, now that that's set up, we should build a pillow fort," he suggested with bright eyes. You laughed before you agreed.
You spent probably 15 minutes constructing the most perfect fort you could make. It was huge and somehow had a roof with an opening you could hop in and out of. The couch had no more cushions and some chairs were used to help support the pillows.
"What should we name it?" Sam asked, standing beside you to admire the masterpiece.
"Hmmmmmm," you said as you pondered a name. "How about Haunted? Because it could be haunted, and if not, we'll make it haunted," you suggested. Sam chuckled at you before nodding.
"Haunted it is." He moved and stood on top of the couch. He balanced on his feet before jumping so he could go through the whole in the fort roof. He landed and stood up, the building only going up to his thighs.
"Want me to grab some snacks?" you asked.
"What kind of fort would this be without snacks?" he replied. You grabbed whatever you thought looked good and started tossing it to Sam. He would grab it and organize it in a spot on the fort.
Eventually, you finished rounding up food and you went to step in the fort.
"Uh-uh," Sam scolded, shaking his head. You looked at him, confused, until he pointed towards the couch.
"No way, you're crazy if you think I'm hopping in," you said.
"Do it for the fans," he countered, pointing at the camera. "I'll catch you," he added.
You stopped for a second and sighed before you stepped up on the couch. You balanced on your feet, just like Sam, before you jumped. Somehow, you managed to land in the opening. You felt Sam's arms on you, catching you like he said he would. You looked up and you saw him smiling down at you. You smiled back. You realized how close you were and you lingered for just a second.
"Uh, what's next?" you asked, gently stepping away from him.
"Yeah, uh-" he replied, reaching and scratching behind his ear. "Um, let's set up the blankets," he suggested.
As you were setting up the blankets, you had the perfect idea. You waited until everything was done, and you guys' sitting spots were set up, before you started your plan.
"Sam, I've got to go to the bathroom," you stated. You bounced up and down before jumping back out of the fort. You went towards the bathroom, but you double checked to make sure the camera was still rolling. Then, you snuck into Sam's room, finding his hidden nerf guns. You grabbed two, just so Sam wouldn't entirely be outnumbered. You ran back to the living room and Sam looked up when he heard you.
"Ambush!" you shouted before firing at Sam. He yelled before putting his hands up to block his face. You paused for a second to toss him the other gun. He caught it and then he started shooting at you back.
Eventually, you were cowering behind a table, Sam standing behind the fort, darts littering the floor. You were laughing, and so was Sam. You stood up, hands held up in surrender.
"Truce?" you asked.
"Sure, but first," he started before he shot you, "a little payback for the ambush," he explained. You giggled and he smirked. You went to hop back in the fort.
"Alright, guys, I think that's it for this video," Sam addressed the camera. He finished his outro and then reached to turn off the camera. You sat down in your spot and bundled up under the blankets. Sam sat down next to you and pulled out his phone. You guys settled on a show and watched.
You couldn't stop shivering. Although it never snowed in LA, it could still get cold sometimes. You were a cold natured person anyway, and the rain didn't help. Additionally, the power was out, meaning there was no heat.
"(Y/N), why are you shaking?" Sam asked, looking at you.
"I'm so cold," you replied, rubbing your arms for emphasis.
"Well, that's an easy fix," Sam stated. He slid over so that there was no space between you two. He draped his blankets over the both of you. He wrapped his one arm around you and gently rubbed, trying to make you warmer. Suddenly, you weren't cold anymore. You tried to look up at Sam, but he wasn't focusing on you. You just leaned against him, watching the show.
"Better?" he asked quietly.
"Yeah," you answered shakily.
You felt Sam lean down and he kissed the top of your head. When you looked up at him this time, he was looking right back at you. You tilted your head slightly and closed your eyes and Sam leaned closer and-
The lights came back on. You opened your eyes and Sam had his open, too. Both of you were breathing hard, the exhilaration and adrenaline almost overwhelming.
Quickly, Sam hopped up out of the fort. You heart sank, until you heard the light switch flip and the lights went back out. Sam came leaping into the opening, landing beside you. He pulled you back to him, grinning slightly.
"Where were we?" was all he said. You rolled your eyes and grinned before you grabbed his shirt and pulled him close to you, causing your lips to make contact. He moved quickly, making your breath leave you. You broke away and he gently pushed you down, your back laying against the floor. He moved so he was over you, leaning down to kiss you again. His lips moved to your neck, causing you to giggle and groan at the same time.
You guys were so in the moment, that neither of you heard the door jiggle.
"Sam, I think the power went out-" you heard Colby's voice say. He flicked the switch on and you glanced at Sam. Sam just stood up and looked at Colby.
"Yeah, it did. I guess it came back on," he covered. You looked up at Sam and you could see his hair was a little wild, his lips swollen, and his eyes were wide.
"What happened in here?" Colby asked, surveying the room. "Are you by yourself?" he asked hesitantly. You sat up and smoothed our your hair before you stood up. You started rubbing some of the spots on your neck Sam had been at previously.
"Hey, Colby," you greeted him sheepishly. A blush rose to both your and Sam's faces. Colby chuckled before he flicked the lights out and closed the door behind him. You looked at Sam and he shrugged.
"I guess we'll explain later," he said before he pulled you back down to the floor with him, you smiling the whole way.
