20 dollar nosebleed

I was awoken by the lingering smell of burnt paper and coffee

I scanned the room and realised I was in hospital bed I grabbed my chest and tugged on my hair

Phew I'm alive after being ran over

I saw what appeared to be a boy around my age sleeping in a chair next to me

Wait ... Where's Lucy?

No is she okay I hope that man didn't get her back I didn't see where he went after I rammed Lucy out of the way of that car .

I stared at the boy for a good hour or so until he shifted and awoke slowly

He stared into my eyes and exclaimed

" your breathing!!"

He embraced me and I hugged him back as it felt like the right thing to do .

Who was this boy ?

" oh I'm phil by the way "

" I'm dan "

"So why are you here " I asked politely

He smiled and said

" oh yeah ermm.... Well I saw you sitting in my schoolyard and I wanted to see if you were okay but as soon as I went over you ran away so I chased after you being the curious person I am

And saw you get ran over by that car and push that little girl away .... I called the ambulan..."

"So you saw that man grab Lucy and drag her down the road ?!"

"Yeah .. I didn't see where he went after though....

Because I was making sure you were okay "

"Thanks" I answered plainly.

He sat back in the chair and bit his lip.

I actually quite liked him he seemed like a nice person how he tended to me and made sure I was okay

"So how come you weren't in school ?" He asked

"My mom doesn't let me go to school .."

"Why?"

"She tells me I'm worthless and I don't deserve to get an education but I still fought myself how to write and read and stuff so I'm pretty decent at them things "

" You arent worthless!! "

I know I've only just met you but I don't think you worthless ..."

He mumbled something and my mind drifted away back to when Lucy was being dragged , how horrifying it looked.

I snapped back into reality when a nurse waltzed in and told phil to leave as she said I needed some rest he began to get up however I protested and said

" NO ,I want him to stay !"

" but you don't even know him"

" yes I do I've known him all my life "

Now if you don't mind can I get some sleep please? "

"Mr howell I really do believe hat Mr Lester should leave "

"Nurse " I squinted looking at her name tag.

"Joy I really would appreciate it if you left me and phil alone "

"But .... "

"No I don't care please just leave"

"Fine ... I'll be back at 3 to check how your healing "

She closed the door and phil looked at me with his huge dazed blue eyes then hugged me again . I hugged back but it felt more natural this time . as if we were
