TWO WEEKS LATERSamantha's house
I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling, debating the next thing I should do. I slowly grew with annoyance as my frazzled brain fell back on my frien- well old friends. Ever since I left The Goonies I've had nothing to do and it's unfortunately been the only thing on my mind.
"Samantha!" My mom called from downstairs.
I missed being called Rain. It was now boring ol' Samantha. The boys always made fun of me because of my love towards rain. I don't know why but I just loved the sound of the rain hitting my window, it was so calming to watch.
They called me Rain because to the boys rain is loud, annoying and unnecessary as they can't go on any adventures. They found it weird of how much I loved the rain. So to them the name 'Rain' suited me as I'm annoying and loud, I always liked the name though. However, thinking about the name now just made me sad.
I couldn't help but miss them. I mean, everyone except Mouth. I'd practically grown up with them and now they were just gone. I only have myself to blame as I was the one who willingly left the group so ultimately it made no sense that I was still so hurt but I missed them. I knew that much. And I didn't envy that feeling of loneliness at all. I just wish I'd spend my days doing anything other than feeling that loneliness.
I couldn't lie to myself. I wanted to go back. Rejoice with my friends again but there was no point now. It would just be embarrassing and I didn't want to give Mouth the satisfaction of thinking he knew me so well, since he already practically believed he did. Asshole.
I thought about what he said constantly. Well, maybe not constantly but a lot that was for sure. We'd never got on. I mean for as long as I can remember, we'd been at each other's throats non stop. I don't really know why we never got on but there was just something between us that just made made the both of us want to kill each other 24/7. I never tried to form a friendship with him, I've never wanted to anyways. But no matter how many times we argued with each other, he'd never brought up my Dad before. None of the others did either. They knew that he had abandoned me and my Mom when I was still a baby but they had never used it against me before. Well I guess it's because they had actual human decency unlike Mouth. It still hurt though. Even when it came from his stupid mouth, it still hurt. A lot.
"Samantha Hansen answer your Mother!" My thinking was, once again, cut short.
I groaned loudly. "What!"
"Mikey's on the phone and wants to talk to you!" She yelled to me from downstairs.
I wasn't really surprised by her reply. Mikey had been calling and checking up on me ever since I left. It was sweet actually. Still, I had to make up an excuse. "Tell him I'm busy!"
There was a pause.
"He says it's urgent!"
I sighed and rolled my eyes before dragging my body off of my bed and leaving my room where I walked down the stairs and pulled my feet into the kitchen where my mom was standing with the house phone. Once I entered, she handed it to me.
"Hey Mikey." I said unenthusiastically into the phone.
"Rain! Oh my god! You won't believe it! We found the coolest thing! We went into my attic and we found all this cool stuff in my Dad's boxes and there was a map we found, yeah? And we followed it and- and- and it says there's buried treasure underneath this old restaurant place we're at and-"
"Mikey." I cut him off from his rambling while trying to catch up on what he was even going on about through his fast talking and rapid breathing. "I'm not a goonie anymore." I reminded him.
"Yeah I know bu-"
"No, no buts Mikey." I told him in a stern but soft voice. "I meant what I said, okay?"
I heard him sigh heavily. "But Sam-"
"Look, just go on the adventure without me, okay?" I tried to reassure him as I leant my elbows on the counter. "Have fun." I was about to put the phone down but he started talking again.
"But I want you here with us. It doesn't feel right going on an adventure without you." He spoke with sincerity.
"Why? I'm not a goonie anymore." I told him. "You know that only goonies go on the adventures." I kicked my foot on the floor as I felt slightly sad with this conversation.
"I don't care about any of that, Sam." It was his turn to have more authority in his tone. "Goonie or not, I want you here. Please come. It'll be worth it, I promise." He tried edging me on.
"No Mikey. I already told you no." My voice was still quite soft. "Mouth is gonna' be there and the last thing I want do is see his face. It's just gonna' be awkward and I'll be miserable the entire time. Why don't you just take Andi and Stef instead?" I suggested with a smile.
"Because I don't want them. I want you. We want you." He almost pleaded. "Please come. If you won't come because of Mouth, then come for me."
"Mikey-"
"Please, Sam." He cut me off and there was now a pause between us. "...I'll let you keep the treasure." He spoke with persuasion in his voice as well as hope.
I couldn't help but snicker at his tone before sighing. "I don't know Mikey." I voiced my reluctance. "It's just gonna' be awkward and you know it." I told him with a knowing voice. "Only goonies do this stuff."
"Like I said before, I don't care if you're a goonie or not. You're still our friend. And we care about you. You'll be apart of us till' the very end or till' tomorrow..." he trailed off. "But still! Please just come. This could be our last adventure together." Now that made my heart twist.
I sighed again, hesitating over my words and debating in my head over what I wanted to do. "Ugh, fine. Okay I'll come." I spoke feeling defeated yet slightly excited.
"Really?! You're serious right now?" He fumbled out.
"Yes, I am." I mumbled at my loss of a battle.
"Yes! Rain, that's great. That's really great. You won't regret this!" He shouted down the phone which caused me to laugh at his stupid excited voice.
"Where are you?" I asked him.
"Um- we- er- it doesn't matter, it's kinda hard to explain. We had to go over this massive hill with rocks and stuff to find the place. I'll come to you." He told me.
"Okay. I'll go get dressed then."
"Okay. Thank you for this by the way. Alright, I'm about to run out of time on this pay phone so I'll see you in like ten min-"
I chuckled at the sound of static on his end and pulled the phone away from my ear and placed it back down on its stand.
"Everything okay?" My mom asked as she began to make dinner.
"Yeah, Mikey just needs me for something." I mumbled as I exited the kitchen. "I won't be long." I informed her.
"Okay but make sure your home before dinner!" She yelled up to me as I headed upstairs.
I made it to my room and instantly collapsed onto my bed while sighing.
Time for another adventure.
