"Ed?" Peter mumbled. "Did you hear that?"
Edmund's eyes opened for just a minute to look up at Peter, nodding slowly before he doubled over again.
Peter took a deep breath. "Let's just get this over with." He muttered.
"Susan, in your bag you'll find rope and cloth." Aslan said quickly.
Susan nodded and immediately grabbed them, handing them hesitantly to Peter.
Peter sighed and helped Edmund sit up. Edmund collapsed back against his brother, groaning in pain as his eyes snapped open, if only for a second. "Make it stop." He choked, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"We're going to Ed." Peter said, his arms wrapping around his younger brother. "You just need to hold on for a few more hours."
Edmund looked rather alarmed at this news. "Not hours." He choked, shaking his head slowly.
"Ed it's the only way we can stop this." Peter mumbled.
Edmund let out a sob and buried his face against Peter's shoulder. "Alright." He managed to say after rather a long time of silence (except for Edmund's quite sobs).
Peter nodded slowly and helped Edmund over to the nearest tree.
Edmund took a deep breath as he sat against it, flinching as his back touched the bark.
Peter hesitated but soon set about tying the rope around his brother and the tree, pulling the knots as tightly as he dared.
Edmund let out a small choked noise, taking a deep breath, but it wasn't enough, the ropes were too tight for him to breath properly.
Peter figured this and went to loosen the ropes, but stopped when Edmund shook his head. "Don't." He whispered, opening his eyes and looking up at Peter. "They - They need to be tight."
"But Ed, they're too tight!" Peter exclaimed. "You can't breath properly!"
Edmund sighed and gave Peter a forced smile. "That's what it was like last time." He mumbled, his voice cracking as he flinched.
Peter sighed but slowly nodded his head. "Alright." He mumbled, before he grabbed the piece of cloth.
Edmund swallowed hard before opening his mouth, allowing Peter to gag him.
"Tighter." Edmund mumbled, taking a deep breath as he stared at his brother.
Peter shook his head, his face falling. "Ed it's tight enough." He said quickly.
Edmund shook his head back. "No it's not." He managed to only just say.
Peter bit his lip, sighing before he pulled the knots even tighter, causing Edmund to groan.
"Sorry." Peter mumbled as Susan knelt down on his left and Lucy on his right. "Tight enough?"
Edmund nodded at him, now not able to say anything.
"It's just a few hours Ed okay?" Peter reassured him. "You can do it."
Edmund swallowed hard and nodded again, nodding beside him. Peter smiled sadly a sat beside him, just about managing to wrap an arm around his shoulder.
Edmund sighed, biting back a cry as he rested his head against Peter's shoulder.
"How long?" Peter asked, glancing up at Aslan.
Aslan hesitated. "Four." He said simply.
Peter's eyes went wide and Edmund let out a small whimper, burying his face against Peter's neck. "Four hours?!" Peter choked in disbelief.
Aslan nodded. "I'm afraid so." He said sadly.
Peter sighed and looked down at his brother. "It's gonna be alright." He whispered.
"We can stay with him can't we?" Susan asked hesitantly.
Aslan nodded. "I'm pretty sure you can yes." He replied.
Peter breathed a sigh of pure relief, and so did Edmund, even as he flinched.
And there they sat, in complete silence except for Peter's quite whispering and Edmund's occasional whimper.
"How long have we been sat here?" Peter mumbled after what felt like an eternity.
"Only an hour." Aslan replied sadly.
Edmund swallowed hard, in so much pain now that it was beginning to become unbearable. He buried his face further into Peter's neck, causing the rope to dig into his stomach and arms. Edmund let out a groan, tears rolling down his cheeks as he shook his head.
"Ed?" Peter questioned, looking down at him and tightening his grip just slightly around his shoulders.
Edmund just kept shaking his head, telling Peter easily without words what was wrong.
"Ed come on." Peter mumbled. "You can do it."
Edmund took a deep, shaky breath, straining his chin against the gag, but it only caused him to whimper in pain.
The next hour came and went, Peter holding his brother tightly, Susan - her hand placed gently on her shoulder and Lucy sat leant against Aslan.
Edmund tried to hold back the tears but it was impossible. With every passing minute the pain got worse, and he still had another two hours. His mouth ached like anything, the corners of his mouth already split. And the rope tying him to the tree hurt so badly he wanted to scream, but the gag sorta prevented him from doing that. He was glad though that his siblings were there, especially Peter.
"It's gonna be okay." Peter whispered in his ear, placing a kiss to his forehead.
" 'ease." Edmund managed to choke, hoping Peter would understand what he meant to say.
Peter sighed and reached his other hand down, grabbing hold of Edmund's and giving it a firm squeeze. "You can do it." He murmered, knowing Edmund had said please.
Edmund shook his head, letting out a sob.
"Yes you can Edmund." Peter said firmly. "You're strong. I know you can do this."
Edmund took a deep breath and, burying his face further against Peter's neck, nodded his head and squeezed his eyes shut.
Another hour passed, and Peter could hear Edmund's breathing, and knew he was now really struggling to breath properly. "You okay?" He mumbled.
Edmund shook his head, gripping Peter's hand in his sweaty one as he groaned in pain.
"Just one more hour." Peter reassured him.
Susan bit her lip from where her and Lucy sat leant against Aslan, Lucy curled up in her sisters arms. "You can do it." Susan whispered.
Edmund swallowed hard, his face still buried against Peter's neck.
After half an hour he was properly crying, trying to break free of the ropes.
"Ed come on." Peter said, holding him gently around the shoulders.
Edmund shook his head, pulling away from Peter and pulling against the rope, causing himself so much pain that he kept crying out.
"Ed please." Peter mumbled. "You're hurting yourself."
But Edmund didn't stop, for the next twenty five minutes he just kept struggling, until he had no more strength left and he collapsed against Peter.
Peter took a deep breath. "Five more minutes." He whispered in his ear.
Edmund had no strength to reply in any way, he just sat and waited for the next five minutes to pass.
And then, the pain slowly started to fade, first the pain in his stomach, followed by his back and then the backs of his legs and quickly followed by his wrists.
He relaxed against the tree a little and leant into Peter's side, his eyes closing peacefully. It was over. It was finaly over.☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆
