14 Years Later
Lunaria yawned, opening the hardwood door and entering her room. It was dark, and the faintest light was the comforting and soft glow of the moon. She closed the door behind her, stepping inside.
She sighed, removing the student robes and placing them above the washer. I know it's magical and all, and they'll clean in probably less than a minute, but I'm super tired right now, Lunaria decided. Her arms ached, since the entire day she had been working in her Advanced Kensei classes. She sat on the bed and reviewed the notes she had taken on her first day of classes which seemed so long ago.
Monks of the Way of Kensei train relentlessly with their weapons, to the point that the weapon becomes like an extension of the body. Founded on a mastery of sword fighting, the tradition has expanded to include many different weapons.
A kensei sees a weapon much in the same way a calligrapher or a painter regards a pen or brush. Whatever the weapon, the kensei views it as a tool used to express the beauty and precision of the martial arts. That such mastery makes a kensei a peerless warrior is but a side effect of intense devotion, practice, and study. She had chosen her weapons in order to be able to support any placement on the battlefield; Be it the frontlines, middle grounds or the backlines, she could fight there. Her proficiency weapons were the Katana and Longbow, both fit for her with her agile movement and dexterity. With those weapons needing not strength but precision, she was able to master them with finesse. Not only that, but she also trained with the normal Monks to also use her fists in any up-close combat, if the situation calls for such.
Lunaria closed the notebook and sighed. I've never been one for books, which is strange. The reason she believed this was because of the Temple of Knowledge being just that; It has all the books detailing everything and anything, from monsters and animals to races and weapons. If a subject has a name, it is most definitely in the temple. Therefore, many students and adventurers came to get this knowledge.
However, everyone who has ever entered has been given a warning. To earn knowledge, you must give knowledge. Lunaria made this mistake once, learning all about ranged weapons but forgetting where her room was in the tower. With the help of her peers she found her room, but learned her lesson and gained an understanding of the books.
But there was one thing she yearned for, much more than the knowledge inside her home. She wanted battle.
She wanted to escape this prison and become an adventurer. Pursuing monsters and quests, finding lost pets and people, and being free to explore the world. But as this was her only home, she couldn't do that. As an orphan with no gold to spare, there was no way to leave. Not to mention the Temple of Knowledge was only reachable by boat, since it was on a desolate island.
Why am I reviewing all this in my head like a monologue? Lunaria shook her head. All she wanted to do was lay down and sleep, but she knew she should go to the student bathhouse first. Grabbing her key, she got up and grabbed some extra clothes before escaping to the bathhouse.

Putting on the bathrobe, she walked into the shower section. It seemed to be empty except for one or two girls, probably just coming back from classes like her. She walked over to a free shower, and placed bathrobe on a hook and turned on the water. Her favorite part about the bathhouse was the magical water, which could recover anyone's stamina regardless of how much they worked. She sighed happily as she finished the shower, noticing the other girls had left. Walking into the storaging room, She changed, left the bathrobe in the "Used" bin, and walked out.
She returned to her room in some cotton sleepwear, and tied her hair in a long ponytail. Plopping down on her bed, she covered herself in the soft plush covers and smiled as the bed sank her into sleep.
______________Notes_____________
The Kensei is not my original idea, nor is any of the races, animals or monsters mentioned now or later in the story. This world is based off of Dungeons and Dragons, 5th edition and anything in the story can most likely be found by searching "dnd 5e [insert creature here]."
Lunaria is my original character as well as other characters in the story. Thank you~
