when your broken mother asks you to look for a wife, you look for a wife because you don't like shattering already broken things / when your broken mother asks for six eggs, you get twelve because this is the least you can do for someone who gave you the world / when your broken mother asks you to sit with her so she can tell you how her funeral should be, you sit with her and listen (after all, it's the least you can do) / when your broken mother leaves her broken broken broken heart behind, you tell her story to your children / you write about her in books and you write novels / you write about the cruel cruel cruel world that broke your mother / you write apologies and letters you wished you had told her before / you write poetry about her eyes and hands / you finish it all with a "i'm sorry if i broke you too" / after all, this is the least you can do /
