If I am pregnant
At the age of 17
I would do my best to take care of the baby
No matter my self-esteem
I'd finish my high school years
Whether you're in my belly or out
I'd get a job for you, my dear
And help you keep your head up.
I'd show you off to everyone
from friends to family
And tell people that though you were not expected
You were still a blessing.
No matter what happens
No matter the time you come
I know I'll love you forever
No matter the outcome.
I know it will be rough
I know it will be hard
But I also know, my dear
We'll make it through it all
I wouldn't let the hatred
Of a teen pregnancy
Affect me or you
because you would still be a blessing.
I couldn't go through an abortion
knowing there are so many others
who have tried to have one of their own
yet cant
because of age
or something medical
I couldn't go through an abortion
because the thought of killing
the being growing inside me
the being that could be my only
the being that would develop
a heart of gold
the being that would be innocent at that time.
that is too heartbreaking for me.
I couldn't go through an abortion.
because it wouldn't be just killing the baby
itd kill a part of me.
