A Humanity Test.

One fine day in school.

I'd missed my car-pool.

So I took the public route bus,

Which got stuck in traffic, due to the rush.

Up aboard came some children, not very big hardly ten.

But faces resembling those of labouring men.

They started singing a melody song.

But voices so sad, it stung.

They had their instruments made of bricks.

On striking it went 'click' & 'click'.

After finishing the song they all spread.

Asking money for their night's bread.

I got a little boy, almost half my size.

He came over and tapped me for a prize.

He had big, doe-like eyes.

Eyes that told how often he cries.

Now there was this case, I had money, but very bare.

Hardly enough for the toto's fare.

If I gave him the money, I'd have none.

I'd have to walk in the blazing sun.

But then I remembered who he'd to feed.

Him himself and his family's need.

Walking three miles was what I could do best,

In that strange, unexpected humanity test.

My legs were angry, they pained that night.

But there was a smile on my face, because I had done something right.
