Summary: Two young elves of Mirkwood decide to steal a bottle of Thranduil's famous wine.

A blonde head cautiously peeked from behind a wall. Seeing there were no guards, he singled his hand and a chestnut-haired elf appeared at his side.

"All clear," he whispered. A glint of mischief shone in his grey eyes.

"For now at least," the blonde turned to his friend, "my father retains high security with things he holds most valuable."

"Especially his Prince Legolas. He will kill us if you don't make it to the council meeting."

"Shut up, Galidar," Legolas glared, "I despise those council delegations; it is full of useless arguments."

"Whatever you say, Your Highness," Galidar teased, emphasizing the 'highness'.

Legolas scowled. "Come on, we are wasting time."

The two elves crept to the cellar's doorway, pausing to glance into the room. Both grinned when they found it empty and proceeded to enter the room.

Wine. The walls were covered in shelves as far as the eye could see and filled with bottles neatly arranged. Barrels too covered the floors and were no doubt filled with wines. Legolas grinned at Galidar and took a candle from the wall.

"I know where my father keeps the Dorwinion wine," Legolas said in a hushed voice, and Galidar nodded anxiously.

The Dorwinion wine was only for large parties or Thranduil's most important guests. It was a rare treat for the civilians of Mirkwood.

The two elves crept along the wooden floors, their feet making not a sound. Legolas lead Galidar to the back of the cellar where a grand shelf stood filled with the divine wine.

"Feast your eyes, my friend," Legolas smirked at a gawking Galidar.

"And our King keeps it all to himself?" Galidar ran his hand over the many bottles, touching them as if they were gold.

"Mostly. It is reserved for special occasions and honored guests," Legolas murmured and placed the candle on a nearby table. He reached for a bottle of wine and pulled it from the shelf then hid it inside his cloak.

Galidar glanced toward the doorway, and his eyes bulged. "Legolas," he whispered sharply, "someone is coming."

Legolas quickly blew out the candle. There wasn't another exit in this area and to make for the entrance meant getting caught. Their only hope was the cover of darkness. Legolas and Galidar crouched low underneath a table and cast a glance at the entrance.

Voices floated to their ears and soft footsteps inched closer. They could see two faint shadows moving across the cellar walls, and they held their breaths, not daring to utter a single sound.

"The King requests more wine of his finest wine, Elros, make hast," one said, and Legolas and Galidar shot a worried glance at each other.

The footsteps came closer till they saw a pair of boot standing right in front of the table they were under. Luckily, Elros didn't seem to notice them at all and began to walk away with a bottle of wine in his hands.

Legolas and Galidar signed in relief and watched as the two elves left the cellar. They pulled themselves out from underneath the table and glanced around the room one last time.

"That was close," Galidar let out a breath he had been holding.

"To close," Legolas replied and patted the bottle in his cloak. "Let's get out of here."

The two elves dashed out of the cellars with their stolen prize. Their hair flew behind them as they raced through the palace, their hurried footsteps echoing throughout the halls.  They ran until they reached Legolas' chambers, passing quite a few amused guards along the way. Aye, they were all accustomed to their Prince's mischevious ways, and it lighted their spirits.

Legolas pushed his door closed and pulled the bottle from his cloak with a grin of success. "Let us drink to our victory!" He popped the cork and brought the bottle to his lips and drank deeply. "Aye, it is strong but very good," he tossed the wine to Galidar who caught it swiftly.

Galidar gulped down the wine, some of the dark liquid escaped his lips and trickled down his chin. "Ahh, that is good," he took another swing then handed it back to Legolas.

"It is a shame my father believes me too young to drink wine," Legolas dropped his eyes, momentarily ashamed for stealing from his father. He took another swing from the bottle; his doubts washed away by the sweet taste of wine.

"He doesn't have to know, Legolas."

Legolas shook his head and smiled. "Aye."

A loud knock sounded at the door, and both elves visibly jumped.

"Legolas Thranduilion!" Thranduil's firm voice sounded from the other side. "Open this door at once!"

Both Legolas and Galidar glanced at each other, waiting for the other to do something.  Legolas quickly hide the wine behind his lounge and slowly walked to the door to avoid suspicion. He took a deep breath and opened the door.

"Hello, Ada," he smiled.

Thranduil crossed his arms and raised a brow, his cold eyes showing he was not pleased."You were told to attend the council meeting, were you not?" Is that wine I smell?

"Yes, father," Legolas bowed his head. He had no excuse.

"Then where were you?"

"I..." Legolas started.

"Well?" The elven King's eyes roamed behind Legolas, and his eyebrow raised at seeing Galidar standing there very tense. "Galidar," he greeted curtly, and his eyes roamed to the purple liquid on his chin that was obviously wine. His eyes narrowed.

Galidar quickly wiped his sleeve over his mouth and shifted on his feet. Busted, was the only word going on in is head.

A thick silence fell over the room, and Legolas decided he'd rather be scolded than left in a chamber of silence with his father. He gulped in trepidation.

"Did you steal from me, Legolas," the elven King's low voice broke the silence, and his eyes bore into his son's, daring him to lie.

Legolas looked up into his father's eyes before lowering them to his feet. "Yes...Ada."

"Show me."

Legolas strode over to his lounge and brought forth the bottle of Dorwinion wine. Galidar closed his eyes and bit his lip.

Thranduil took the half-empty bottle and anger crossed his face. "So, this is your explanation for disobeying my command?"

"Forgive me, Ada, I just cannot stand those councils! But it is no excuse...I accept my punishment."

"My Lord, I too partook in this act of disobedience," Galidar admitted and was relieved when the King didn't even look at him.

Thranduil gazed glanced at his son with love. He hated to punish him, even when he deserved it. He loved Legolas dearly and seeing him miserable made his heart ache. He shook himself, Legolas will be punished, he thought. "You will see to it that you are present for the meeting tomorrow on time. Then afterward I want a fifty-page manuscript about why you should never miss another council again. And you, Galidar, I will have a word with your father." Thranduil didn't wait for a response before he strode out the door and slammed it behind him leaving a gaping Prince of Mirkwood and a shaken Galidar.

Galidar let out a relieved breath and ran a hand through his hair. "Well, I guess that means no more wine?"
