minus thirty-one

call me a hypocrite,
but i touched your stinging red
cheek a little too roughly today.
and though it made no match for
your scalding words i
felt that little flicker of strength
somewhere inside. and i
liked it.

and you hissed and you
reared back and you told me
i must never hit you again,
or you would do much
worse.

she looked at me with those
flaming green eyes. those eyes
that i looked into far too often and
for far too long, and i was almost lost
in them, in her, again. until i felt
her delicate not-so-delicate hands on
my weathered face.

and then i was p o w e r l e s s
in your [beautiful] hands as you
left your heart under
lock and key again.
