One of my favorite drawings because damn, roses are hard. Also I never actually specify who these strings are attached to in this AU because I want to let you guys decide that.

Hanahaki Disease[花吐き病] is a sickness wherein those who hold an unrequited love cough up flowers that bloom in their heart and lungs.
In the Apple of Eden AU, sufferers of the disease are stigmatized, as it is seen as punishment for defying the red string of fate and rejecting your soulmate. The flowers can still be surgically removed, but it is considered a crime against the gods.
Those who produce red roses, a symbol of deep and true love, are both loathed and pitied for their tragedy.
(Think of this as an AU to the AU, where his love is never requited.)
