BTW guys, I have no idea how to spell the plural of miraculous, so bare with me, lol.

Grandpappy stood from his seat, and walked to the middle of the marble floor, "Marinette, come here."

I obeyed, coming up beside my grandpappy. The floor beneath us was suddenly raised up.

Grandpappy took out a small black box with a red symbol on the lid. My eyes widened as I recognized the symbol. Grandpappy turned to the crowd, and began to speak, "For three hundred years, our island and its inhabitants have been tasked with a duty. This duty is to protect sacred jewels of immense power. The miraculouses."

The crowd seemed to gasp with the simple power the name held.

"The miraculouses are why the Sirens defend our island, why we hide from the rest of the world, and why we prosper. At age ten, the miraculouses bestow their song to the future queen so she may lure ships to the sharp rocks of doom. At age thirteen, they grant the queen a wish."

I nodded... I knew all this, it'd happened to me. Imagine going from a tone deaf princess to a harmonizing siren at age ten. Then, at age thirteen I wished for the prosperity and love of my island.

Grandpappy continued, "And finally, at sixteen the miraculouses give the queen her challenge... what this challenge may be, no one knows. But all the signs are clear. For this challenge, the miraculouses are to give up one of their own to the queen."

Suddenly, music and laughter filled the air. Everyone looked up in awe and wonder... Kwamis. Sure, we'd heard the stories... and of course I'd talked to Wayzz, Grandpappy's kwami, countless times... but still, seeing the kwamis. It was spectacular.

The kwamis flew over us, dancing and singing.

"Get on your knees, Marinette."

I did so, bent down on my knees, head bowed in respect.

"Marinette, you have been chosen to wield one of the most powerful miraculouses ever created. The earrings of the ladybug."

Suddenly, Grandpappy drew out a needle, and a servant brought over a grapefruit.

Knowing what was coming next, I bit my tongue so I wouldn't gasp in pain... you see, my ears haven't been pierced yet.

The servant cut the grapefruit in half with a knife, then held one half behind my left ear. Then, grandpappy plunged the needle through my ear.

I'm ashamed to say I flinched a little.

Quickly, he pulled the needle out of the grapefruit, meaning it had gone completely through my earlobe.

The other ear was done quickly.

I took a mental breath. That wasn't so bad.

Grandpappy opened the box, and red light suddenly filled the beach. When it faded, a creature floated in the air. She was red and black with antennas and big bright blue eyes.

"Greetings your highness. I am Tikki, your kwami," The creature, Tikki said brightly.

I nodded my head, "It's an honor to serve."

"Μεγάλη Βασίλισσα Σειρήνων, Queen Magnolhiania, Siren Song, Lady Marrhiettoa, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I give you the miraculous of the ladybug, which grants the power of good luck. You will use it for the greater good, and never for your own personal gain. Do you swear this?"

I nodded, "I swear it."

Then, I put the earrings in my ears. I felt a shock travel through my body like an electric eel in my veins.
